Greetings!

I am enjoying a collaboration with Rotary clubs in the US and Puerto Rico on their Wellness Project.  In each country, Rotary sponsors a teen mentor group called  Interact. The teens receive training and co-facilitate  wellness curricula with schools and youth groups.

If you would like details, please join me at the Weston Golf Club this week Thursday at 6:15pm (the address is 275 Meadowbrook Road, Weston, MA). The Rotary Club of Weston & Wayland invited Harman Bharj and me to present on the wellness project.  Harman is a teen mentor from Weston, and she was elected as a Director of the Interact club.

I am also happy to know that educators throughout Massachusetts are seeking resources that help healthy students prevent symptoms of anxiety and depression from occurring.  I would like to lengthen the list of resources we promote. If you have a favorite curriculum or program, please share it by answering the three question survey linked below:

Best regards,

Did you know...

... you can increase your resilience at any age?

The folks who developed screening resources back in 1991, including Signs of Suicide (SOS) - to identify which individuals had developed symptoms of depression - are now moving earlier in the wellness continuum.  Screening for Mental Health Inc. now offers a toolkit to help campus administrators actually prevent symptoms from occurring in students. The toolkit includes a curriculum for exercising  the 7 resiliency skills. View the college resilience resource through the following  link:

Maximizing brain performance for warriors

Brain Performance Institute, University of Texas

Former Marine Jacob Schick is an impressive  person even before he speaks. When he does speak, it is obvious why he earned the job of Warrior Relations at the Brain Performance Institute (BMI), University of Texas. A former Marine, Schick  counsels  veterans with brain trauma from stress or physical injury.

Some veteran programs at the BMI are still in  research mode but outcomes from its Strategic Memory Advanced Reasoning Training (SMART) program are proven. Veterans show improvement in mood and trained cognitive areas.  Also, real life improvement occurs in managing finances, social life, and  work. Several veterans, including Schick, tell their stories  in video clips that may be viewed through the link below:

Train-the-Trainer at any distance

Webinar now available

Boston Childrens Hospital announced a webinar  series for those that cannot attend the local Train-the-Trainer workshops on their Break Free FromcDepression curriculum. The three-part webinar series will be held on three consecutive Monday afternoons from 3:30 - 5:30pm:
  • October 20
  • October 27
  • November 3
You may complete the webinar series to receive the manual or attend their November 7 in Peabody, MA. Register for either format through the following link:

Participants learn how to facilitate the 'Break Free From Depression' curriculum in their unique school setting. The training is tailored towards high school personnel (and community health providers partnered with high schools) who are focused on health services.

'Break Free from Depression' increases adolescents' awareness about depression, teaches them how to recognize it in themselves and in their friends, and gives them strategies for finding help. The 4-session curriculum for high school students features an  uplifting documentary of youth who talk about their personal experiences with depression and its  treatment.
