Greetings!

Hello from your friends at Bike Recycle Vermont! Here are some updates since we were last in touch.

This Saturday, August 16th:
Bike Jam!

Have trouble getting into the shop to volunteer during the week? Want a rainy day activity? Join us for bagels, coffee, and Saturday morning wrenching this Saturday from 10AM to 1PM at the shop. We host a Bike Jam on the third Saturday of every month for all the weekend warriors (and anyone else who is interested) to come in and get your volunteer on.

Sign-up for our next Mechanic-In-Training Series

This is our first year offering intensive trainings for interested Volunteer Mechanics, and they're a smashing success!

The Mechanic-in-Training series is seven 2-hour sessions covering all systems of the bicycle, shop operations and procedures. All trainings are taught by shop manager Dan Hock, a professional mechanic, great instructor, and the man who knows BRV best.

The goal of these trainings is to provide prospective volunteers who are able to commit to regular volunteering at BRV a basic foundation for doing so; participants should not expect to walk away from the classes with the skills they need to be a good mechanic, and they should expect to apply the knowledge they've gained through volunteering in the shop. Practice practice practice! Participants who complete these trainings and volunteer regularly in the shop should expect to hone mechanical skills that will last them a lifetime, and that will be a huge benefit to the shop.

If you're ready to commit to regular volunteering the shop, or are already a regular volunteer and want to refresh your skills, sign-up now! The series fills up fast.

Similar training courses can cost upwards of $300. This series of classes is a sliding scale of $90 to $200. Scholarships are available, email dan@localmotion.org to learn more.

For more information and to sign-up, visit the Classes page on our website.

Bike Care 101 for Women/Trans/Femme

Bike Recycle Vermont has partnered with Old Spokes Home to offer Bike Care 101, a clinic on bike mechanics, maintenance, and repair for anyone non-male identifying.

Veronica Wheeler, a mechanic at Old Spokes Home, is instructing the clinic which is three 3-hour sessions. Veronica goes over bike anatomy, common repairs and fixes, the systems of the bicycle, and more.

The clinic is a sliding scale of $75 to $200 and all profits go to BRV. There are scholarships available for income-eligible people -- email christine@localmotion.org to inquire.

For more information and to sign-up, visit the Classes page of our website.

Happy Trails!
