VerMontreal 2014: a Classic Returns!
What's better than a ride along the newly restored Island Line Trail? How about continuing the ride all the way to Montreal for the 30th anniversary celebration of the Tour de l'ile? That's what we've got planned for the spring of 2014 when the much loved VerMontreal tour returns. Sojourn, a locally based active vacation provider and long-time partner with Local Motion's VerMontreal ride, has generously agreed to organize the 2014 event as a fundraiser for Local Motion. This year's ride includes some very exciting additions. Big change this year: the VerMontreal tour will start in Burlington! We'll kick off day one on the City's waterfront and enjoy the full length of our spectacular lakeshore path while we make our way to our first night's accommodations on the water's edge in North Hero, Vermont. Along the way, we'll ride Local Motion's bike ferry across "the cut" on the Colchester causeway with the blue waters of Lake Champlain and sweeping mountain vistas in all directions.
And that's only day one of this 4-day adventure! VerMontreal 2014 promises to be better than ever, but don't wait too long to sign up. The trip is capped at 80 riders, so visit the Sojourn website today to learn more and book your trip!

Colchester Prioritizes Walking & Biking
Colchester has been investing in multiuse paths, sidewalks, and other infrastructure for walking and biking for a number of years, and it shows.
And the best part is, what's on the ground now is just the beginning.
A conceptual drawing of new bike lanes and sidewalks in Colchester Village
Creating more transportation options was a major focus of the "Circ Alternatives" planning process that just wrapped up last month. (See below for details on what the "Circ" is and how it relates to transportation.) Colchester prioritized several "Circ Alternatives" projects that will make walking and biking much safer and easier, including:
- A shared-use path and four-foot shoulders along Severance Road
- Sidewalks and four-foot shoulders on VT 2A through Colchester Village
- A 12-foot multiuse path along Route 15 between Lime Kiln Road and Susie Wilson Road
- Multiuse paths on both sides of Route 7 at I-89 Exit 16

Ten Thousand Thank Yous!
This year, 460 Local Motion volunteers donated over 10,000 hours to Local Motion. That's the equivalent of five full-time employees! Our volunteers keep Local Motion running: from Bike Recycle Vermont to Secure Bike Parking to the Bike Ferry to our main office, every part of Local Motion depends on people like you.
The Follett family enjoys Local Motion's volunteer party
So we threw a huge party to say THANK YOU! Over 150 volunteers enjoyed delicious food and good company at Arts Riot on Pine Street in Burlington. Many thanks to Skinny Pancake for donating delicious hors d'oeuvres! To those volunteers who could not attend, thank you for all that you do, and we hope to see you at next year's party!
