Thank You Chapin for a Great 14 Years!

It's hard to imagine, but our founding Executive Director Chapin Spencer is moving on to a great opportunity...outside of Local Motion.
Burlington Mayor Miro Weinberger appointed Chapin to be the next Director of the Department of Public Works. Chapin's last day at Local Motion will be August 2nd.
"It has been an fabulous opportunity to help build this fun, dynamic and effective movement," remarked Chapin. "Hands down, the best part of the job was getting to work with thousands of passionate people to forge a common vision of an active, healthy and vibrant Vermont."
"Local Motion will continue to build on the legacy Chapin has fostered," said Board President Peter Zamore. "Local Motion has a solid board, a professional staff and a fabulous base of members and volunteers. The great work will most certainly continue."
SHARE YOUR THANKS ON FACEBOOK: Take a moment to share a memory of how you and Chapin have worked together to make our region a better place to walk, bike, run and xc ski.
LOOKING FOR A NEW LEADER: We are looking to hire a dynamic, passionate Executive Director to lead the organization in its next phase. Click here to view the Executive Director job posting. Review of applications begins July 15.
THANK YOU FOR CHAPIN @ ANNUAL PARTY: As part of our Annual Party in mid-September, we'll make sure to celebrate Chapin's contributions. We hope you will be able to join us! More details in the August Walk 'n Roll News.

Getting Every Body Moving
Everybody should be able to enjoy an active life, regardless of their abilities.
To make this happen, Local Motion is partnering with VT Adaptive Ski and Sports and RAD Innovations to provide adaptive bikes to residents and visitors alike.
On June 1, we were happy to host a VT Adaptive Ski & Sports adaptive cycling event at our Trailside Center.
Now, RAD Innovations has generously made a number of adaptive cycles available at our Trailside Center. David and Anja Black of RAD Innovations moved their cycling company from Oregon to VT last year, following a number of other relocations including Budnitz Bicycles and Terry Bicycles. |
Cycles and Flowers at Bike Recycle Vermont!
In early June, two customers-turned-volunteers came to the Bike Recycle Vermont (BRV) staff with an idea -- an artistic entry for Bike Recycle Vermont's stark front door.
Using bike parts and twine, they created a trellis for morning glory flowers, which they planted below. The volunteers stop by to water the flowers most mornings before Bike Recycle staff even arrive for work!
Much of Bike Recycle's mission is fulfilled through volunteers fixing bikes -- but we're also delighted by the unconventional ways that volunteers contribute to the shop, like bringing together flowers and bicycles!
Want to make jewelry from bike parts? 'Make Stuff Nights' Weds, 6-9pm Want to fix bikes? 'Bike Jams' Third Saturday of every month, 10am-1pm

Bike Challenge Update: Vermont's Still On Top
The 2nd annual National Bike Challenge is underway and Vermonters are again proving that we love to bike.
Vermonters are logging more trips and more miles per capita than anywhere else in the country...and we intend to keep it that way. So pedal on Vermont!
