WINOOSKI YOUTH CONTRIBUTE TO
BIKE RECYCLE
Since January of 2013, a handful of students from Winooski High School have come into Bike Recycle on a regular basis to volunteer their time and learn about bike mechanics. Their efforts have mainly been committed to getting kid's bikes refurbished for our partnership with the Sustainability Academy. They bring a spirit of silliness when they are here at Bike Recycle, and we're thankful for their efforts here! In late March, the volunteers from Winooski held a bake sale to benefit Bike Recycle. They surprised us with a donation of over $100! This donation is greatly appreciated!

Featured Bike Customer: Nikki (and Evara)

Nikki recently moved to Burlington from Hawaii, where she had been living for 8 years. She works at Gardener's Supply and lives in the Old North End. She was drawn to Vermont by the quality schools for her daughter, who is enrolled at the Sustainability Academy.
BRV: Tell us about your bike!
Nikki: My bike is great! I can get to work and back home so much faster and it is so much fun to ride again. Bike riding doesn't happen so much in Hawaii- it's not really set up for biking- so it has been a long time since I've ridden. It was so nice to ride again. You guys gave me a really nice bike. BRV: What are you excited to use your bike for?
Nikki: Practical things. I need it to get to and from work. I'm also excited to get my daughter to ride and learn to bike, going along with the Sustainability Academy's commitment to getting students to learn ride independently.
BRV: Why do you bike?
Nikki: Cars are too expensive. Everything is within biking distance, and it's so easy! Everything at Bike Recycle is so great! Such a positive, vibrant place! Thank you. I'm really happy to have a bike.

Featured Volunteer: Ragav

Ragav started coming into Bike Recycle in March. This energetic, feisty 10-year-old delightfully demands the whole attention of the shop when he's volunteering. Ragav's family moved to Vermont from Nepal one year ago. He lives with his parents and two brothers here in the Old North End.
BRV: What is your favorite part about volunteering at Bike Recycle?
Ragav: Helping others. Everything. My favorite parts are fixing other bikes to get money for the shop. I had fun helping to get the shop ready for Movie Night in March. I made popcorn and set up the chairs.
BRV: What project are you most proud of that you've worked on at Bike Recycle?
Ragav: The time I worked with Hannah fixing the bike. We fixed the chain, the seat, and replaced the tires.
BRV: What have you learned since you've been coming to Bike Recycle?
Ragav: I learned that I want to work on bikes in the future. I'm learning how to make bikes work. I love bikes!
