Greetings!

Greetings from everyone at Bike Recycle Vermont! Here's an update on what we've been up to lately.

VolunteerSpot Lauches!

volunteerspot

Now you can schedule yourself to volunteer with us! Check out VolunteerSpot to see how many bike stands are available on a given day, how many folks we need to work the front end of the shop, and sign up for a volunteer shift with a single click! Looking to wrench in the shop? Looking to get in some volunteer hours at the artists' market? Sign yourself up for volunteer shifts by clicking on the link below or the VolunteerSpot button on our website.

training Want to volunteer? Want to learn bike repair? Attend a volunteer training with Dan!

It's been a long time coming -- volunteer trainings! Before diving into activities in the shop, new volunteers now receive a comprehensive introduction to Bike Recycle Vermont's programs, systems, physical layout, and an introduction to basic bike maintenance and repair including bike anatomy, flat tire fixes, brake and shifting systems, and more.
You don't have to be a new volunteer to attend a training! Veteran volunteers or new-ish volunteers are welcome to attend.
Are you an experienced bike mechanic? Do you enjoy teaching others? We're recruiting volunteer trainers to train up new volunteer mechanics and head mechanics. Email dan@localmotion.org if you're interested.

BRV Summer Bike Club Launches

bike club summer 2012

Bike Recycle paired with Diversity Rocks Youth Group to form a Summer Bike Club! 15 youth are exploring everything Burlington has to offer on bikes; they'll ride through Ethan Allen Homestead, go swimming at Red Rocks Park, and trek all the way to Shelburne Farms! The youth will ride out to the New North End to meet up with folks at Healthy City Youth Farm, and get an introduction to bike polo from Burlington's pros down at the skate park.
Interested in riding with us? We're currently looking for adult chaperones! Chaperones are needed from 2:30pm - 5pm on 7/23. 8/6. and 8/20 (all Mondays). Email dan@localmotion.org if you're interested.

Thanks to our sponsors MVP Healthcare & Vermont Community Foundation!

Bike Recycle Designs finds success at Market, seeks additional volunteer vendors

Bike Recycle Designs is raising lots of money and awareness for BRV at the weekly artists' market (next to the farmers' market in Citty Hall Park, every Saturday from 9AM to 2:30PM). Volunteers are hocking our wares -- inner tube belts, spoke bracelets, feather earrings and more -- and spreading the good word about Local Motion and Bike Recycle Vermont's work in the community.
Like talking to people? Like talking up cool stuff? Hang with us at the market and be a Volunteer Vendor! Volunteer Vendors should be able to work at least three Saturdays, including one training shift. Volunteers can sign up for both training and regular shifts on VolunteerSpot.

BRV participates in We All Belong Program, 3.0

Vermont's population is becoming more diverse and reflective of a global citizenry, and BRV is working hard to become more effective in the way we work across cultures. We are about to participate in the third year of the We All Belong Program which works with Burlington area non-profits, schools and city departments to be more inclusive workplaces and effectively serve the community. In 2010 We All Belong (WAB) launched as a pilot program to support organizations engaged in change efforts to create more welcoming and equitable organizations. Over two years, BRV staff has gone through 50 hours of professional development with 70 leaders representing 11 organizations, schools and city departments in Vermont.

Happy Trails!
