NDP teacher, Pete Riley, interested in the "how and why"
At Notre Dame since 1999, Pete Riley loves that the school never rests on laurels.
Riley, an upper-school social studies and political science teacher, thinks one of the most important parts of his job is making sure his students understand how and why, not just what they learn in the classroom. "To me education is more about the 'process' of learning than the results," he says.
Riley was interviewed and published in Notre Dame's Blarney Stone.

Middle schoolers get lesson on Five Habits of the Heart
As part of a continuing effort by the Marist Fathers and Brothers to make sure every student, staff, administrator, board member, alum and parent walks away from their Notre Dame/Marist experience living the three-part mission of the school, pastoral minister and religion teacher Fr. Jim Strasz, s.m., brought the Marist charism to life this week to middle-school students of Notre Dame."We would like to invite people to follow the Marist way," says Strasz. "That is, the way of Mary, especially as she was present in the early Church. And in today's world, we would like our colleagues and students to learn to think as Mary, judge as Mary, and act as Mary in all things."
Demonstrating humility, Notre Dame Pastoral Minister Fr. Jim Strasz '70 (NDHS), washes the feet of sixth and seventh graders.
NDP students "Stuff-A-Bus" with supplies for needy schoolchildren
Notre Dame students volunteered September 7-8 at the 33nd Annual Michigan Renaissance Festival and collected thousands of supplies for area schoolchildren as part of a local Stuff-A-Bus program.
An ND school bus was bursting at the seams as patrons of the Michigan Renaissance Festival in Holly brought in school supplies for the needy in the area. NDPMA transportation coordinator Larry Jack worked with Lighthouse of Oakland County and Genisys Credit Union (Auburn Hills) on this initiative. NDP students on hand during the weekend made sure donors were well taken care of and that the bus was filled as efficiently as possible.
"More than 1,060 adults and 520 children brought in school supplies for the cause," Jack said. "This was a big increase over last year's Stuff-A-Bus, which also was very successful." Full Story
