NDP alumna passionate about leading, helping others
'13 grad Carly Joseph interviewed by the Michigan Catholic
PONTIAC - The question was: what makes Carly Joseph tick?
It came near the end of an interview with this 17-year-old alumna - as of a couple of weeks ago - of Pontiac Notre Dame Prep, going over her high school career, her extracurricular activities, her outside school interests.
She expressed herself easily, yet a bit cautiously, but conveyed the notion that her thoughts were in order and that she knew exactly what she wanted to share. Full Story

NDP alum plans for long career in the Air Force Interview with Ruairi McGreevy '12 (NDP)
Ruairi McGreevy, a 2012 graduate of Notre Dame Prep and a cadet in the U.S. Air Force Academy, met with U.S. Senator Debbie Stabenow of Michigan on March 27 at an event in Southfield. McGreevy was appointed to the academy a year ago and is well into his freshman year at the Colorado Springs-based military service school. Stabenow was instrumental in the nominating process last year that earned McGreevy his appointment.
McGreevy recently received his "wing and prop" from the academy, which recognizes him for outstanding work during his first 10 months of service. He now is no longer considered a "doolie" and has officially moved up in rank as a full member of the USAFA. NDP grad Nick Hafner ('10) also is at the Air Force Academy, currently a junior. In an interview with NDPMA, McGreevy talks about his first year in the academy as well as his time spent at Notre Dame. Read the interview here.

Sports Illustrated cover subject speaks to middle schoolers
Terry Eurick, who once graced the cover of Sports Illu strated magazine as a member of the 1977 Notre Dame national champions, spoke to students from Notre Dame Marist Academy's middle division in May as part of its annual Field Day. (Eurick is the father of Kyle '05 (NDP), Kristina '09 (NDP) and Kianna '13 (NDP) and has two children currently enrolled at Notre Dame.) His message to the students Monday included topics ranging from faith to football and being true to yourself.
More on Eurick from Sports Illustrated's website archives: "As a fullback at Notre Dame from 1974 through '77, Terry Eurick was not an All-America, nor did he have a 1,000-yard rushing season. In fact, he ran for a total of 806 yards in his career. But Eurick, one of three captains on the Fighting Irish's 1977 national championship team, had a knack for being in the right place at the right time. A power-running, short-yardage specialist, he scored nine touchdowns over three seasons, and then reached the end zone on two of his four carries in the title-clinching 38-10 thrashing of top-ranked Texas in the '78 Cotton Bowl. Lower division International Day celebrated on video
On May 10, students at Notre Dame's lower division were treated to another of many extraordinary internationally themed events as the Notre Dame Marist Academy - Middle Division International Day 2013 was held at the school's Waterford campus. Junior-kindergarten through fifth-grade students witnessed representatives presenting a number of different countries and their respective cultures. Botswana, Germany, Brazil, Canada, England, Spain and Italy were among those celebrated by the children who also study within the prestigious International Baccalaureate curriculum. Julie Chow-Wah, a Notre Dame parent and chairperson of International Day at the lower division, says it's vital to share the international experience with our children. "It's really important that we teach our kids how to embrace and respect differences in culture and countries around the world."

Sophomore amasses landscape tools for Habitat for Humanity
NDP sophomore Jenna Sassack saw a need and filled it. Big time. Sassack had been volunteering with Habitat for Humanity for a couple of years, mostly with landscaping work. She noticed that many of the tools she and other volunteers used were old and shabby, especially garden shovels, rakes and post-hole diggers. She thought that the volunteers, who spend a lot of their own time helping those less fortunate, deserved better. So Sassack sprung into action. Full Story
