See you in 2013!

Notre Dame High School Honored at Bishop Gallagher Dinner

The Bishop Michael J. Gallagher Society is a group dedicated to the collection and preservation of Detroit Catholic school history. The Society hosted its second-annual awards dinner on Thursday, November 8, 2012, at the Academy of the Sacred Heart in Bloomfield Hills.
The event began with Mass in the school chapel followed by dinner and the awards program. At dinner, Frank Castronova '89 (NDHS) spoke about the history of Marist education in the Detroit area, including Notre Dame High School, which was one of three now-closed schools entered into the society's Honor Roll. Keynote speakers were US District Court Judge Gershwin Drain (Detroit St. Gregory '66), and Mike Duggan (Detroit Catholic Central '76), CEO of the Detroit Medical Center. Also, three individuals were inducted into the St. Order of St. Bede in recognition of their service to Catholic education in metropolitan Detroit and to the preservation of its history and heritage: Sr. Joan Charnley, IHM (Detroit St. Gregory), Thomas K. Coyne (Detroit University of Detroit Jesuit) and Thomas M. Wozniak (Detroit St. Casimir).

ND Alumni Assoc. Makes $200 Donation to JumpStart Costa Rica!
Why not help out a fellow Notre Dame alum? Well, that's just what the ND Alumni Association did by making a generous $100 donation to JumpStart Costa Rica. And to top it off Frank Coppola '73 (NDHS), who is also on the Alumni Board, matched the contribution!
Anna Mott '07 (NDP) is in Costa Rica with the Peace Corps teaching English to elementary students. In January, Anna will be running a camp called JumpStart Costa Rica for 20 students in her town.
The alumni office received an e-mail from Anna after she was notified by her director that JumpStart received a $200 donation from Notre Dame Alumni Association. She was thrilled and couldn't thank the ND Alumni Association enough.

Chris Burns '10 (NDP) United States Naval Academ y
Chris Burns '10 (NDP), at the U.S. Naval Academy, stands inside the Bancroft Hall Rotunda, the second-largest dormitory in the world.
Chris Burns '10 (NDP) is in his second year at the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland. Chris says that no other school offered the combination of Division-1 athletics, prestigious academics, a unique campus in a great college town and most importantly, service to country!
Chris is majoring in Naval Architecture, which is a relatively small specialized field that combines the science and math of engineering with a creative twist. Not only does Chris have a full class load, he finds time to compete on the varsity cross country and indoor/outdoor track teams (Burns was a state champion in cross country at NDP). He is also a member in the Marine Technology Society, German Club and is a volunteer with the Special Olympics.
Chris has been given many opportunities, and Notre Dame had a big influence on getting him to the Naval Academy. He feels Notre Dame provided him with the invaluable foundations of lifelong friendships and a desire to succeed while improving the community around him.

NDP First Annual Dodge Ball Tournament!
Remember the five Ds of dodge ball...Dodge, Duck, Dip, Dive and Dodge! And that's what was going on in the NDP gym on Tuesday evening, November 20, as NDP's student council hosted it's first dodge ball tournament.
Over 17 teams played in the tournament including one NDP faculty-and-staff team. The teams consisted of six to ten players, each with team names and coordinated uniforms.
Each team played six games and were bracketed for the championship round. The winning team of the tournament was the team, "Bring your own dodge balls." Well, they were the winners until the NDP Faculty and Staff took them on in a grueling game! Needless to say, the faculty-and-staff prevailed!
What a fun evening! A great time was had by those who dodged the balls as well as those who cheered in the stands.

Support the Notre Dame Annual Fund Today
The Notre Dame Annual Fund is the major fundraising initiative of NDPMA. Gifts to the annual fund are unrestricted and allow the school to invest where the needs and opportunities are greatest. This year's fund is off to a great start with more than $23,000 contributed by nearly 200 alumni from Notre Dame Prep, Notre Dame High School, Pontiac Catholic, St. Frederick and St. Michael. The 2011-12 annual fund raised nearly $410,000. Our goal for 2012-13 is to raise $450,000. In order to achieve this, we hope to substantially increase the number of alumni who participate. Notre Dame and the Marist Fathers appreciate gifts of any size. To learn more or to contribute, please visit www.ndpma.org/annualfund.
If you have any questions about the Notre Dame Annual Fund, please contact Annual Fund Director Frank Castronova '89 (NDHS) at 248-373-2171 x 5 or email@example.com.
