Holiday Membership Luncheon

Date:   Wednesday, December 12

Time:  Registration - 11:30 am; Lunch -  Noon to 1:15 pm

Location:     Crowne Plaza Tampa Westshore

Join us at our holiday celebration.   No speakers, no business, just an Alliance holiday celebration that won't be the same without you.  Networking, a delicious holiday lunch and entertainment provided by the Roland Park K-8 Magnet School for International Studies.

We will also be collecting holiday gifts for individuals with disabilities served by  MacDonald Training Center (MTC), who do not have family or friends with whom to share the spirit of the holiday season. Their holiday wishes are for simple items that many of us take for granted.

Please consider a gift of any of the following most requested items:

  • Gift certificates for a meal at a nice restaurant (Olive Garden, Red Lobster, Outback Steakhouse, Applebee's, Chili's and Panera are favorites.)
  • Day passes for Lowry Park Zoo, Busch Gardens, Clearwater Marine Aquarium, Universal Studios or Disney World.
  • An overnight stay at any hotel.
  • A salon service for hair and/or manicure/pedicure.
  • Games that may be shared by 3 or more adults.
  • A 42 inch flat screen TV for the living room for 3 roommates sharing a house or apartment.
  • Gift cards to Target or Wal-Mart for a "shopping spree".

If you are unable to attend our luncheon, but would like to donate, you can drop off your gift at the Alliance office at 3109 W. Dr. MLK Jr. Blvd. Suite 140.

Cost:  $35 for members; $55 for non-members.

Register at our website by noon on December 10th

Kinetic Ring Sculpture Dedication!

The dream of our public art committee is finally a reality!  Join us on December 14 at 8:30 a.m. for the dedication of  the first major public art piece to be installed in Westshore.   "Kinetic Ring" designed by local artist Catherine Woods, will be installed at the southwest corner of Kennedy & Memorial Blvds. Parking is available on the top level of the Parking Deck behind the Kennedy Center Bldg., 5100 W. Kennedy Blvd. (Click here for a map).  Mayor Bob Buckhorn and Ron Rotella will make brief remarks, plus you will have the opportunity to meet the artist.  We hope to see you there.

Westshore Master Plan Update

Work is progressing rapidly on the Westshore Master Plan.  The plan will be complete early next year and will identify specific improvements to streets, sidewalks, parks, etc. that will foster new private-sector investment and create opportunities for economic development throughout Westshore. The draft plan will be completed within the next month.  We will begin an extensive public input process early next year.   For more information contact Ann Kulig.

Westshore Development & Real Estate News

Multi-family development is heating up in Westshore.  Plans are in the works for nearly 1500 new apartments in the area south of Boy Scout Blvd., between West Shore Blvd. and Dale Mabry Hwy.   Projects under construction or in the planning stages are:

  • Legacy Westshore, developed by MCRTrust,  is a 300 unit apartment project currently under construction on Spruce Street between Trask & Hesperides
  • Perennial Properties has received City Council approval to build  255 apartments at 4310 W. Spruce Street.
  • Framework Group, LLC and Northwood Ravin are planning Varela Westshore, a 350 unit apartment community at the southeast corner of Spruce and Lois.
  • The Metwest International development plan includes a 254 unit upscale apartment site.
  • The Richman Group is pursuing an opportunity for 250+ apartments in Westshore.

Saber Corner LLC, has filed a rezoning application for a second phase of its development (anchored by the Container Store) on West Shore Blvd.  The new phase includes 35,000 square feet for retail, restaurant and potential office use. Read more about it in this recent Tampa Tribune article.  The City Council public hearing to consider the rezoning is tentatively scheduled for January 10.

Two Rocky Point office buildings - Island Center and Waterford Plaza - recently sold for $85.5 million.  The two Class-A, 12-story buildings total 494,813 square feet.
