FEBRUARY 2016

LOVE is in the air this month. Your body needs your love. There are so many ways to love your body, that we decided to focus on one small body part; your hamstrings. They may not be glamorous but your hamstrings bend your knees, rotate your lower legs inward and outward to fine-tune your movement, and they act like brakes to slow the speed at which you swing your legs forward. Don't take your hammies for granted this month. Give them some love!
HAMSTRUNG BY AN INJURY?
A hamstring injury occurs when 1 or more of the 3 hamstring muscles or tendons (a type of soft tissue connecting the muscle to the bone) tear. It is 1 of the most common injuries of the lower body, particularly affecting athletes participating in sports such as football, soccer, or track. After tearing a hamstring muscle, a person is 2 to 6 times more likely to suffer a subsequent injury. Surgery is required to treat the most severe cases. However, in most cases, hamstring injuries are managed with physical therapy.

PHIT'S COUSIN PHRED STRAINS A 'STRING

Phit's cousin Phred is a 28-year-old former collegiate football player. Since graduating from the University of Pickle, his workout routine typically involves several days of weightlifting and the occasional pick-up basketball game. Phred is an engineer working 40 hours a week, primarily seated at his desk. Recently, work has been very busy, as his company has been assigned a new project. Phred hasn't made it to the gym in several weeks.
