Normally, "April showers bring May flowers" but since the "showers" are continuing, we thought we would focus this month's newsletter on "Showering Yourself with Healthy Living". We hope you enjoy our May issue of STAYING ACTIVE.

1. Tell us about yourself. I have four siblings. Tammy, Dan, Luke and Jimmy. My dad was in the Air Force for 25 years so I was born in Turkey. I consider myself a Colorado native though as we settled in Colorado when I was in 3rd grade. I grew up in the Ken Caryl area of Littleton and went to Chatfield High School. I received my undergraduate degree from the University of Colorado and received my DPT from Regis University.

2. What made you want to be a Physical Therapist?

Growing up I was a mile runner and a cross country runner which led to my fair share of injuries. I really respected those who tried to help me return to my best form. I also have a passion for a healthy, well balanced productive life. I enjoy working with people and educating people on how to best reach their potential...whatever that may be.

3. What are your favorite spring activites? I am a Colorado guy through and through. I love the outdoors and all the things that Colorado has to offer. Spring is my opportunity to get outside and hike some 14ers, play with my dog, basically anything that allows me to get outside. I am thinking I might start training for a half marathon this spring.

4. What do you do to stay healthy? I like many types of exercise including yoga, cycling, running, hiking, swimming etc. I want to try land based paddle boarding this year.

Memorial Day Facts

1. Memorial Day once went by the name Decoration Day. It was meant as a time for the nation to decorate the graves of fallen soldiers with flowers.

2. The date was chosen to bring May flowers. It was thought that by late May that flowers would have bloomed to be at their most beautiful for the decoration ceremonies.

3. One of the first Memorial Day celebrations occurred in in 1866, a full two years before it became an officially sanctioned holiday.

4. Up until World War 1, Memorial Day only officially celebrated those soldiers who died in the Civil War. After World War 1, Memorial Day honors all soldiers who served and died for the United States.
