GE Foundation Scholar-Leaders Program
The GE Foundation Scholar-Leaders Program is a leadership program which is unique in the Central-Eastern European region. The program was launched in Hungary by the GE Foundation in the fall of 2002, followed by Poland in 2003, the Czech Republic in 2004; Romania joined in 2006, making it a regional model program. Winners receive a USD 4000 award, but more importantly become part of a network including Czech, Hungarian, Polish and Romanian top students, and with GE's help get an insight into the workings of one of the most successful companies. In addition to this, they also get a chance to perform community service in their own countries. All this aims at creating a network of future leaders in the Central and Eastern European region who want to contribute to the development of the region as well as their own countries on the societal level as well, and for whom cross-regional economic and social cooperation is a value.
The program is open for second-year undergraduate students in the field of economics, management, engineering, or technology, from selected universities.
The application deadline is February 26, 2016.

Istvan Lam: GE Foundation Scholar-Leader makes Forbes' "30 Under 30" List
Istvan Lam is a stellar example of a GE Foundation Scholar Leader who took full advantage of both the financial and leadership support he received through the program.
Now CEO and co-founder of the Hungary and Switzerland-based company Tresorit, a cloud-based storage and collaboration platform that is so secure it has offered, but never had to pay, a $50,000 bounty to any one who can hack its servers.
Istvan received a GE Foundation Scholar-Leaders Program grant from 2010 - 2012, and used it to complete his degree at the Budapest University of Technology and Economics. As part of the program, he met a fellow Scholar-Leader Gyorgy Szilagyi, who is now Tresorit's CFO. Istvan also met Erno Dudo, Founder and President of Solvo Biotechnology and the Hungarian Biotechnology Association, who helped him find investors for Tresorit.
In recognition of Istvan's incredible achievements, he has just been included as one of Forbes Magazine's "30 Under 30" European professionals to watch in 2016, in the category of technology.

2016 marks the program's 14th year in Central and Eastern Europe, and more than 500 past and present participants can testify to the life changing potential of this great leadership program, envisioned by Eszter, who was also instrumental in implementing it so successfully, in cooperation with IIE Europe. Eszter has just stepped down from her role as GE's Corporate Communications Leader in Central Europe, but we look forward to cooperating with her on her new projects and wish her much success in her future endeavors.
