GE Foundation Scholar-Leaders Program 2014 Award Ceremonies
The 2014 award ceremonies took place in Budapest, Prague, Bucharest, and Warsaw from May through July, celebrating this year's 32 talented winners.
In Prague, the GE Foundation Scholar-Leaders Program celebrated its 10th anniversary in the Czech Republic. The award ceremony took place at the residence of the American Ambassador in Prague. Several Scholar-Leader alumni came not only to celebrate the new winners, but also to take part in the Talent Seminar following the event, where they had the chance to visit the GE Aviation Czech s.r.o. and listen to speakers such as Peter Stracar, GE GGO CEO for CEE, Eszter Szabo, GE Communications & PA Leader CEE, and Bara Pencova, GEAC HR Director.
The Polish Award Ceremony featured speeches from Beata Stelmach, CEO GE Poland & Baltics, Włodzisław Duch, Undersecretary of State Ministry of Education, Henryka Bochniarz, President of Boeing Central Europe and President of Lewiatan Confederation, and the GE Foundation Scholar Leaders Program alumni speaker, Szymon Fulara. This year's winners also had a chance to hear from a surprise guest speaker, Piotr Przybysz. Piotr was selected as a GE Foundation Scholar-Leader in 2004 and is now Assistant Professor at the Technical University of Lodz, the very same university he graduated from. This year he served as an academic recommender for one of the 2014 Polish winners, a fact that demonstrates once again the longstanding and reinvesting nature of the GE Foundation Scholar-Leaders Program.
Following the award ceremonies the 2014 winners from all four countries had the opportunity to gather as a whole at the Leadership Development Program, which is organized every year in Budapest. For five days the new Scholar Leaders, along with six Scholar Leader alumni, participated in various programs such as volunteering at the Szentendre Open-Air Museum, team building activities in Esztergom and a day at GE's Váci Greens Office in Budapest where they heard inspiring stories from Agostino Renna, President & CEO of GE Lighting, Joerg Bauer, President of GE Hungary, and István Lám, CEO of Tresorit and alumnus of the GE Foundation Scholar Leaders Program.
We encourage you to read more about these remarkable individuals and events in the following articles on the GE for CEE blog:

Dorrance Scholars Summer Seminar 2014

During the month-long journey, the scholars had a chance to experience a wealth of culture firsthand: masterpieces of art, religion, music and architecture, history and literature. They also had the opportunity to engage with communities through service projects with Habitat for Humanity in Romania and Hungary. The program is dedicated to offering students a truly unique set of opportunities to expand their horizons-both literally and figuratively-and grow as scholars and individuals.
The summer seminar is a component of the Dorrance Scholarship Program, which provides full scholarships for Arizona residents to complete undergraduate degrees at one of the three public universities of Arizona. The seminar takes up to 20 scholars annually on a month-long tour of selected European countries, incorporating visits and experiences specially tailored to themes of history and art.
