Mike Higgins was ordained by the Church of God in Christ in 1985, and began serving as a church planter in West Germany, Kansas, and Missouri. He was received into the Presbyterian Church in America as a teaching elder through the Tennessee Valley Presbytery in the spring of 1997. Mike was commissioned as a PCA chaplain in the winter of 1999 and is now assigned to the Pentagon as a personnel manager for Army Reserve chaplains.
Mike received a BA in Biology from the University of Missouri, a Master of Divinity and Doctorate in Ministry at Covenant Theological Seminary, and is a graduate of the army's Command and General Staff College, Division and Installation chaplain's course. Prior to his chaplaincy, Mike was a field artillery battery commander, army writing and leadership instructor and an operations staff officer.
Mike served as the first moderator of the PCA's Metro Atlanta Presbytery (2005-2007) and as senior pastor of Redemption Fellowship (PCA) in Fayetteville, Georgia from 2001-2011. He is presently Dean of Students at Covenant Seminary and co-pastor of South City Church.
Mike has been married to Renee for 33 years. They have two daughters, Mary Yvonne and Michelle Joanna, and two grandchildren, Moses and Mattie.
