ALUMNI AWARDS OF DISTINCTION HONOREE PROFILE
Forest "Treeze" Sharrock Award Recipient
Domenic "Dom" Tiberi
Class of 1977

Dom Tiberi isn't your run-of-the-mill sports reporter. Not by a long-shot.

While other sportscasters may be content to cover the basics, Dom brings a whole new meaning to the "world of sports." Tune in on any given day and Dom may be reporting on anything from the latest scoop on the Buckeyes to more offbeat stories of local athletes. He's been seen on everything from water skis to racing sulkies.

Tiberi has a strong commitment to high school athletics, from his duties with First and 10 to covering the local high school beat, zeroing in on local athletes.

After graduating from St. Francis DeSales High School in 1977, he then attended Otterbein College in Westerville, where he majored in Journalism and Public Relations.  While at Otterbein, Dom was actively involved in his college radio and TV station, as well as a member of the football team. At 10TV, Dom has won 2 Ohio Valley Emmys for his work.

On September 17th, 2013 the Tiberi family was touched by tragedy as their 21-year-old daughter, Maria, was killed in an auto accident. While she wasn't texting, drinking or eating at the time of the crash, the official cause was attributed to 'distracted driving.' In February of 2014, Tiberi, and WBNS-10TV, launched "Maria's Message," a public service campaign created to educate teens about distracted driving. Tiberi takes the campaign and his message into area high schools, telling the students what happened the night of the tragic crash, and encouraging defensive driving. The powerful presentation ends with students reciting "Maria's Pledge", and signing the Maria's Message pledge cards. Tiberi's efforts, coupled with the support of Ohio Senator, Jim Hughes, have secured legislation making September "Safe Driving Month" in Ohio, in memory of Maria Tiberi and all those lost during distracted driving accidents. Governor Kasich signed the legislation into law in June of 2014. To date close to 45 to 50 thousands kids have been reached through Dom's school visits. The Maria Tiberi Foundation has purchased 26 distracted driving simulators which are placed around central Ohio with area Police Departments and used by ODOT as well.
ALUMNI GIRLS SOCCER GAME

DAILY REFLECTION
Soon we shall be in eternity, and then we shall see how very petty are the things of this earth and how inconsequential it is whether we are involved in them or not. Now we get all worked up as if they were terribly important! When we were small children, how carefully we collected pieces of wood, stone and such to build huts, and if someone knocked them down we cried; then we were all put out, but now we understand how unimportant these things were. We will feel the same way one day in Heaven, when we see that all our preoccupations in this world were nothing but childish concerns. Be faithful to your duties, but be convinced that there is nothing more worthy or more important than eternal salvation and the perfection of your soul. (Letters 455; O. XIX, p. 22)
