ALUMNI AWARDS OF DISTINCTION HONOREE PROFILE
On May 20th, we celebrated our 11th annual Alumni Awards of Distinction. Over the next several weeks we will highlight our 2016 honorees in each Weekly DeTales.

Barbara O'Riordan Award
Mary and Jerry (posthumously) Callaghan

Mary and Jerry Callaghan have volunteered countless hours to St. Francis DeSales High School, from the time their children Shannon '00 and Bryan '02 were enrolled, until last year.

Mary started working in the cafeteria in 1997 and continued there until 2004.  She was on the Parent Advisory Board at DeSales from 1997 until 2001. Mary began announcing Girls Basketball in 1997 and continued doing that until the end of basketball season in 2015. She also announced for Baseball, Boys Soccer, and Girls Soccer for many years.

Jerry drove the school bus for DeSales beginning in 1999 and continued for several years, even after Bryan graduated in 2002.  He would drive the band and all the sports teams to wherever they were playing.  He also took field trips to Cedar Point several times.

Additionally, the Callaghans started helping Ed and Sheila Ewing with indoor and football concessions when Shannon was a freshman in 1996 and continued doing so until 2012. It is parents like Mary and Jerry that make St. Francis DeSales High School such a special place.

DAILY REFLECTION
The most holy virgin "arose quickly, full of concern" [ cf. Lk 1:39] and went to visit Elizabeth to show us the promptness with which we must correspond with divine inspirations. Indeed, when the Holy Spirit touches a soul, He drives out all forms of laziness and tepidity - defects that often give us trouble in our spiritual life. He dearly loves diligence and promptness in all that concerns the execution of the Divine Will. (Sermons 19; O. IX, p. 165)
