Run the Race Support Club's Home Makeover Success

The DeSales Run the Race Support Club has completed its 3rd house makeover! Each year a family is selected by Rachel Muha, founder of the Brian Muha Foundation and the Run the Race Club, located in the Hilltop area where Rachel's foundation serves underprivileged children and families.

This year's house make-over included whole house interior painting, new kitchen flooring, beds, window treatments, landscaping and outdoor improvements, a custom built bench and family photos. The house make-over is completed in one day, but is done so by lots of preparation in the Work and Family life classes. Students employ creative solutions to up-cycle donations to fit design scheme, tackle DIY projects and make thrift store pieces new again. Some examples of student projects are the starburst mirror over the fireplace using shims, the hand painted scripture passage using a thrift store frame, and the reading nook canopy using an old embroidery hoop. Through this project students learn basic design concepts, hand on skills such as sewing, and most importantly the value of creating a safe, functional, comforting home environment. This academic portion meets our Catholic Identity of loving our neighbor in a spirit of joy and gratitude and culminates as club members, family members, and friends work towards giving the family a fun reveal and an improved home to come back too.

Stallions in the Spotlight

The Boys Varsity Volleyball Team clinched the CCL Championship last Wednesday against Bishop Watterson in 4 sets.  They are undefeated in league play. This is the 4th straight CCL Championship for the Stallions!

Congratulations to Dominic Polemeni-McGovern on his Court of Honor and earning the rank of Eagle Scout.

The Business Club sponsored five modules on business etiquette with the final module being a business dinner at Brio Tuscany to learn the art of proper dining etiquette from Cathi Fallon of the Etiquette Institute of Ohio.

The St. Vincent DePaul club held their commissioning service last Tuesday, as the club's new officers were announced: President - Hazel Antao, Vice President - Ellie Sarle, Secretary/Treasurer - Melissa McCabe, Public Relations Committee - Irene Womber, Delaney Rice, Adele Sciarroni, and Jenna Weithman, and Hospitality - Sylvia Taye and Marcellina Owusu Ansah.

Mr. Garrick stopped by St. Anthony today to read to a group of First graders as a part of the Reading with a Stallion program.

Congratulations to our 2016-17 National Honor Society Officers: Anthony Salmeron - President, Morgan Mitevski - VP, Adele Sciarroni - Secretary, and Joey DeSantis - Treasurer. Elections were held earlier this week and these four were elected by the current Junior NHS members.

On Friday, members of the Engineering Club went to the 4th annual egg drop competition at Central Ohio Technical College. There were approximately 30 high schools, 115 teams, and 400 students there. DeSales took two teams. One team was made up of seniors Matt Zehala, Sara Vradenburg, and Thi Nguyen. The second team was made up of sophomore Ricardo Volley and freshman Cole Kovalchik. 7th grader Noah Garrick also attended with us as a fellow engineering club member. DeSales' first entries in the competition were successful: all eggs survived and fun was had by all!

Celebration of Life

All are welcome to honor and celebrate the life of Roseann Costello, beloved Mother, Grandmother, and friend on Sunday, May 15th at the beautiful Franklin Park Conservatory in Columbus, Ohio.

Please join Roseann's children, Kristen and Donn, in The Palm House at Franklin Park Conservatory for a lightly catered Open House reception 11am-3pm to enjoy the plants, music, and fellowship, and to remember our beautiful Roseann.

A special ceremony will be held at 1pm to honor Roseann with photographs, special memories, music, and of course, prayer. We hope all can be in attendance for this special moment.

Spring will be in full bloom, and the flowers and butterfly exhibit will be showcased to remind us the renewal of life. We invite you to enjoy the day and stroll through the grounds meditating/praying for Roseann's memory, and the memory of all loved ones who have passed.

As a special request, we ask that you wear lightly colored clothing to symbolize the renewing light of God, and to bring a positive affirming energy to the space in order to best uplift and support the family.

We look forward to sharing this special time with each of you whom have made such a positive impact on our family; your loving actions will last a lifetime. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.

Please look for special signs posted at FPC alerting you of the parking available for the event.
Daily Reflection

Let us consider for a moment if lively faith in the cross of Mount Calvary is firmly rooted in our intellect. Faith was indeed implanted there in baptism, but has a sort of idol been fabricated there by our imagination? Let us see if in our memory, where hope has been planted, we have replaced it with an image of some beautiful goddess; if in our will, where God has planted charity, we have introduced vanity and the love of earthly things. In imitation of Saint Helena, we should uproot these cursed figures to reerect the cross, saying with the apostle, "May I never boast of anything except the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ." [Gal 6:14] (Sermons 18; O. IX, p. 179)
