Students in the Spotlight

St. Francis DeSales was proud to host the first ever College Information Night for Latino students and families last Thursday in the Little Theater. Over 40 students and parents attended a bilingual presentation by Mr. Luis Fernando Macas, a doctoral candidate from The Ohio State University. He discussed the LASER mentoring program for Latino students at OSU and reviewed college admission issues and questions. Students who qualify are invited to participate in his current research study. Our goal is to create a LASER mentoring program here on our campus. S, se puede!

French National Honor Society members welcomed our French exchange students yesterday with a breakfast to kick-off their visit.

Catholic Foundation Grant

Saint Francis DeSales High School recently received the 2016 Responsive Grant in the Catholic Education and Faith Formation category from The Catholic Foundation.

This $7,000 grant allowed for the installation of 13 new high resolution IP security cameras around the school. These cameras will allow for greater monitoring of the activities outside of the school while also allowing staff to clearly identify visitors who are entering the building. Additionally, the grant enabled the school to upgrade internal viewing software for easy playback and review of camera footage.  The camera installation took place the week of January 25.

DeSales would like to thank alum Mike O'Reilly '89 of OV Solutions, Inc. for assisting on the strategic planning and installation of the cameras.

Daily Reflection

Death, afflictions and other disasters which make up a large part of life and which are punishments for sin become, through the gentle mercy of God, so many steps to climb up to Heaven, so many means to grow in grace, and so many merits to gain glory. Therefore, it is right to say that we should love poverty, hunger, thirst, sadness, sickness, persecution and death, because they are just punishments for our faults, punishments so tempered by divine mercy that their very bitterness becomes something to be loved.
