A NOTE FROM PRINCIPAL GARRICK
Dear Friends:

As I sit at my desk to write you this letter I am looking out my window and cannot help but notice that we are beginning to see the beautiful foliage associated with Autumn in Ohio.  This time of the year truly reflects the majesty of God's creation. It is my sincere hope that each of you is able to enjoy these beautiful days.

I take this opportunity to share the details associated with an outstanding start to our school year.  In conversations with both the students and faculty I have heard a similar sense of excitement and enthusiasm for a year that promises occasions for both challenge and accomplishment.  In these initial weeks of the school year I have been blessed to witness first-hand the work ethic and sense of community that has its roots in our proud alumni.

These attributes have been evident with our "Gala Opening", our Opening Mass, our annual Autumn Awards Convocation and just last week with our Homecoming week. In my estimation each of these traditional events have proven to be a wonderful affirmation of our school's mission.  On each of these occasions our community has been provided with a poignant reminder of God's abundant grace in our lives.

I wish to take this opportunity to once again extend a personal invitation to each of you to stay engaged with your Alma Mater.  I feel blessed each day to "come home" to a place that has made a profound difference in my life and the lives of my family.  It is my prayer that your experiences at SFDHS were equally gratifying.

While I am quite pleased to report that the early portion of our year has been blessed with success and growth, I do realize we are just beginning and that there is considerable work yet to be done. With this in mind, I humbly request your continued prayer and support as we work each day to provide our young people with all the necessary resources to meet their goals.

As you are aware this time of the year is quite active with reference to hosting prospective students and their families who are interested in learning more about Saint Francis DeSales High School. It is my hope that you will encourage friends and relatives who are exploring educational options for their children to attend our annual Open House on Sunday, November 8 from 11am to 2pm or to contact Alumnae Julie Barber in our Admissions Office.  As a community we are proud of proud the rich tradition that you and your classmates have forged here at SFD; please consider helping us to identify "Future Stallions." Thank you in advance for being such outstanding ambassadors for our school.

In closing, as you move forward this year please know that our students and faculty continue to pray for your health, happiness, and peace on a daily basis. It is my hope that you will consider joining us for our annual Alumni Memorial Mass on Friday, October 30 at 9:45 a.m.  If you are unable to be attend this powerful Mass please pray for us as we honor those members of the St. Francis DeSales High School community that have gone on to their eternal reward.

Peace and God's Blessings,
Daniel J. Garrick '79

YOUNG ALUMS AT THE TOP OF THEIR GAME
On Saturday, three former Stallion Tennis players were recognized at Capital University's home football game for winning the OAC Tennis Championship last spring. Pictured here with their championship rings are SFD alums Jesse Faulkner '12 (middle), Santino DiMichaelangelo '14 (second from right) and Gian Carol DiMichaelangelo '12 (far right). SFD soccer alum Jared Pressley '15 scored his first collegiate goal, a game-winner for Cal Poly in the 80th minute, as they edged UC Riverside on Saturday 2-1!  The Mustangs pushed their unbeaten run to six successive matches by topping the Highlanders and improve to 7-2-3 overall.  Last year, Pressley scored 17 goals for the 2014 Division-II State Champions and was named 2nd Team All-Ohio.  Click here to watch the highlight of the goal.

Two Stallions competed on Saturday at the University of Louisville's Ralph Wright Natatorium.  Andrea Acquista '13, a junior at Louisville had the top score in diving in the 1 mtr and 3 mtr and freshman Anne Marie Cummins '15 posted the seventh fastest time in the 200 fly in Xavier history with a result of 2:10.26!  Cummins also entered the XU record books in the 100 fly, finishing with a time of 59.46.

Tucker Yinger '14 scored the go-ahead touchdown in Dayton's 13-12 come-from-behind victory against San Diego on Saturday to remain perfect on the season. The Flyers trailed 9-3 at halftime, until the former Stallion caught a 55-yard touchdown pass from Alex Jeske.  Yinger finished with 97 all-purpose yards as UD improved to 5-0, 2-0 in PFL play.  Here Yinger talks about the win.

Kenny Stafford '08 recorded his league-leading 9th touchdown reception for the Edmonton Eskimos of the Canadian Football League in his team's 15-11 win over Calgary on Saturday.  For the season, the former Stallion has made 43 receptions for 674 yards.  With the win on Saturday, Edmonton captured their fifth straight victory to move into a tie with Calgary atop the West Division and secured a playoff game.

DAILY REFLECTION
Every morning, before doing anything else, you must beg God to give you gentleness of spirit, so necessary for souls pledged to His service, and resolve for your part to exercise it particularly toward those persons to whom you owe the most. If you do this you will be very happy, because God will live in the center of your heart, which will remain totally at peace. If, however, it happens that you fail in this matter, do not lose heart, but immediately step back into line, just as if you had never fallen. (Letters 1908; O. XXI, pp. 19 - 20)
