A TRIP OF A LIFETIME
A week before the Pope's arrival in Washington D.C., we received a call from alumna Abby Finn '10, staff assistant for Representative Pat Tiberi, giving 28 students and 6 staff members the opportunity of a lifetime: to be on the Capitol's West lawn during the Holy Father's historical visit. Senior Conor Crotty shared his experience, "The pilgrimage to Washington D.C. was one I'll never forget. Being a part of something so special and so historical is just surreal; thousands of people all gathered in one place for the same reason was truly something special." Conor continued, "When Papa Francesco delivered his address to Congress and then came out and said his blessing to the crowd...I was just overwhelmed. It's cool to think that the leader of such a large group of people that was chosen BY GOD was standing right in front of me!" Principal Garrick agreed, "It was an emotionally-charged moment when the Pope gave his blessing; many of the students and adults were brought to tears. To see the human personification of our faith - the living Church - was very powerful. Moreover, this trip, like all our scholastic travels, is consistent with the school's philosophy of providing 'real life' experiences for our students." The SFD contingent also had an opportunity to interact with Congressman Tiberi, "who has always been a big supporter of the school."

A week later three SFD alums, Deacon Bill Demidovich '78, Deacon Mickey Hawkins '66, and Deacon Carl Calcara '76, were in Philadelphia representing the Columbus Diocese, distributing Holy Communion at the Mass with the Holy Father.

CAREER AWARENESS/MENTORSHIP PROGRAM
We invite you to share your skills, profession, and time with our students through our Career Awareness/Mentorship Program.  Junior and senior students will have the opportunity to participate in this new program during the 2015-16 school year.

You may want to be a guest speaker sharing resume tips.  Maybe your career involves interviewing and you could explain strategies during the interviewing process.  Your profession may lend itself to having a student shadow you throughout the year.  The opportunities are endless. Perhaps you have another idea that would help our students on their journey in developing and using God's gifts to the best of their ability.

Please contact Guidance Counselor Dan Rotella by email at [email protected] or phone at 267-7808, ext 232 if you are interested in helping our students in their career exploration.
DAILY REFLECTION
Do not change your confessor too readily. When you have chosen one, be faithful in keeping him informed of the state of your conscience on the day selected for your confession, telling him frankly and openly the sins you have committed. From time to time, say every month or two, let him know of any inclinations you may have, even if they are not sinful. For example, do you give way to moments of sadness or ill-humor? Do you frequently take time off from your duties? Do you have a tendency to want your own way? Ask yourself similar questions. (INT. Part II, Ch. 19; O. III, p. 115)
