WHERE ARE YOU ENJOYING OUR SUMMER READING?
Mr. Garrick decided to do a little reading on vacation.
Can you guess where he is reading our summer book, I am Malala

Reminder:  Students are required to read this book, I Am Malala: The Girl Who Stood Up for Education and Was Shot by the Taliban by Malala Yousafzai with Christina Lamb by the first day of school.

ABOUT THE BOOK: When the Taliban took control of the Swat Valley in Pakistan, one girl spoke out. Malala Yousafzai refused to be silenced and fought for her right to an education. When she was fifteen, she was shot in the head at point-blank range while riding the bus home from school, and few expected her to survive. Instead, Malala's miraculous recovery has taken her on an extraordinary journey from a remote valley in northern Pakistan to the halls of the United Nations in New York. At sixteen, she has become a global symbol of peaceful protest and the youngest nominee ever for the Nobel Peace Prize.

FYI: The iTunes store has it for $6.99 for download.

  • The elevator shaft block was finished yesterday, with masonry brick work going up as soon as today
  • Fence installation to begin the first full week of August
  • Lobby framing/drywalling completed next week

A NOTE TO OUR CHOIR FAMILIES
Dear Choir families:
My name is Mrs. Kapsch and I will be the choir director at St. Francis DeSales High School for the upcoming school year. I am so excited to be working at St. Francis DeSales and to have the opportunity to share with you my love for music and to help you grow as musicians! I believe that with hard work, great attitudes and a love for singing, we will be able to create an atmosphere where creativity is welcomed and beautiful music is made.

I am so much looking forward to diving into music with you, that I would like to personally invite you to a one day choir camp at St. Francis DeSales. This will be a time where we can get to know each other as a choir family and dive into some great music.

The camp will be held on August 9, 2014 from 9:00am-3:00pm, with a performance for your family and friends, to show off our hard work at 3:30pm. In the next week I will be sending out music and voice recordings of each part that I would love for you to take a listen to and do your best to practice. I am very much aware that it is summer time, so do not stress out about this! We will be working together on the music during camp.

As much as I would love to meet you all on the 9th, I realize that there will be some of you who will not be able to make it. That is okay! We will hopefully get a chance to meet in the fall.

I hope you are enjoying your summer! Look for a follow up email with music and a camp schedule.

With Joy,
Mrs. Kapsch

DAILY REFLECTION
Perseverance is the most desirable gift we can hope for in this life; we can receive it only from the hand of God, for He alone can strengthen the weak and raise up those who fall. For this reason, we must unceasingly ask for perseverance through those means that God has provided for obtaining it: prayer, fasting, almsgiving, frequenting the sacraments, association with good companions, hearing and reading Holy Scripture. This previous gift does not come from our own power, yet it should be the object of desire by our will. It is likewise true that the grace of God is necessary to will to persevere, but heavenly grace is never lacking to those who really want to do good. (T.L.G. Book 3, Ch. 4; O. IV, p. 182)
