Two of our students, Josh Pusecker and Eunice Agyapong, plan to attend the prestigious Martin Essex program at Otterbein University this summer. Gifted students from around the state are chosen to spend a week at this residential camp to explore many challenging and diverse topics. Some of the topics and seminars will include: visual communication and design, printmaking and drawing, Wildlife Exploration, Environmental studies, and voice and movement in acting. A $1000 scholarship to Otterbein is awarded to every student who attends and they are eligible to compete for a full scholarship.

We welcomed seven exchange students from France this week. Thank you to our student hosts and their families (Alexis Carver, Colm Crotty, Madeline Kleinhenz, Madalyn Laugherty, Hannah Lloyd, Thomas Mulligan, and Sherry and Puzhen Yin). CHALLENGE UPDATE
A message from fellow parent, Kathi Haywood '84
As parents we choose to send our children to DeSales because we know they will receive an excellent academic experience, as well as the spiritual development of a Catholic education.  Tuition covers approximately 80% of the total cost of attending DeSales.  The Annual Fund provides unrestricted dollars necessary to cover the gap between tuition and actual cost of a student's education. Last year our parent giving rate was 17%, which is about half of the giving rate of our peer schools, and I know we can grow this number.  If you have not had the opportunity to support the school with your time, talent or treasure, it is not too late to give a gift to the Parent Challenge Annual Fund. Please consider donating online or send back this year's Parent Challenge Annual Fund return envelope which you received in the mail.  The most valuable gift we give our children is their Catholic school education.  Let's show our Stallion pride by giving back today!

DAILY REFLECTION

Devotion is simply that spiritual agility and vivacity by which charity works in us or by aid of which we work quietly and lovingly. Just as it is the function of charity to enable us to observe all God's commandments in general and without exception, so it is the part of devotion to enable us to observe them more quickly and diligently. Hence a person who does not observe all God's commandments cannot be held to be either good or devout. To be good one must have charity, and to be devout, in addition to charity one must have great ardor and readiness in performing charitable actions. (INT. Part I, Ch. 1; O. III, p. 15)
