CASINO ROYALE SUCCESS

Thank you to all who attended Casino Royale Dinner Auction and Casino Night on Saturday, April 20, 2013.  The SFDHS gymnasium was transformed, creating an elegant ambiance with over 350 parents, alumni, past parents, faculty, and supporters that enjoyed a wonderful night of delicious food and spirits, live Elvis entertainment, fun casino gaming, and over 200 silent and live auction items.  We are pleased to report that we raised over $80,000 (net) for the co-curricular programs including athletics, band, drama, and over 30 scholastic and interest-based clubs, including $10,050 raised during the Fund-A-Need for an addition of an elevator that will provide accessibility to all of our community members!  Click HERE to check out all the incredible items that were up for bid and the proceeds it made for the programs.

We appreciate the collective efforts of the entire St. Francis DeSales High School community for their donations, purchases, attendance and support for this year's auction.  Special thanks to Auction Chair Julie Yale for creating such a remarkable and festive evening.

Please mark your calendars for next year's event on Saturday, April 12, 2014!

STALLIONS IN THE HEADLINES

Senior Anna Dandridge participated in Ohio's Kids Safe Online Poster Contest this month, illustrating the safe and secure use of the Internet by young people.

Juniors Gabe Biggers and Austin Yochus have been accepted to Ohio Business Week 2013. This is an exciting program that gives eligible high school students a unique, hands-on experience with business and entrepreneurship. Students learn directly from the pros how to establish and run their own company.

Senior Cody Sarisky (pictured left) qualified to compete at Nationals in rowing with the Westerville Crew.  He qualified in a four-man boat against teams from 10 different states in the Midwest.

Junior Anthony Hayes (pictured right) was accepted to the University of Notre Dame's Introduction to Engineering camp in June. This opportunity will give him access to learn more about the fields of engineering; especially mechanical and chemical.

The Science Inquiry students made impressive presentations this week on their STEM project - Car Crash Simulations. They began the project by engineering the crumple zone and the passenger compartment of a car.  Their passenger was a raw egg and the car was accelerated across a 1.0 meter track, hitting a 5 centimeter board at over 7 miles per hour upon impact. Their egg passenger could not move forward into the windshield and could not crack. The second phase of the project included background research and application in the following areas: physics of their car crash, biology of their car crash (Injury Biomechanics), mathematics involved in their car crash, real world developments in car safety devices, crash avoidance systems, and facts about car crashes, especially with teens, and use of Technology (some RHINO, GOOGLE SKETCH UP, iPad and iPhone).

The French Club Coupons for the Military drive has brought in over $50,000 in coupons for our troops overseas.  This represents an almost 100% increase over the last few years receipts.  French Club adviser Ms. Andres and the members of French Club would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to the entire DeSales community--students, faculty, staff, parents and families--for making this phenomenal success possible.  Thanks, too, to our friends at Clintonville Academy, who participated with us this year.  And, last but not least, a very special thanks to French Club president Brittany Thomas and her mother, Mrs. Thomas, who have spent hours and hours cutting and counting coupons to make this service project possible, and to the French Club members themselves, whose hard work is most sincerely appreciated.
GRADUATION BANNERS ARE IN!

SPIRITUAL REFLECTION

Divine Savior, we come to Your sacred table to nourish ourselves not with bread but with Yourself, true Bread of eternal life. Help us daily to make a good and perfect meal of this divine food. Let us be continually refreshed by the perfume of Your kindness and goodness. May the Holy Spirit fill us with His love. Meanwhile, let us prepare a place for this holy good by emptying our hearts. (Letters 636; O. XIV, p. 375)
