Good luck to junior Calvin Ling, who is currently preparing for the "Hank Marr High School Jazz Award 2013" which will take place in March. In addition to preparing for this competition, Calvin dedicates much of his time to the SFDHS music program: playing music for all the choirs, performing in the Marching Band, and is planning to play in the orchestra for the spring musical. NOTRE DAME CLUB SPONSORS HESBURGH LECTURE
The Notre Dame Club of Columbus is again sponsoring a Hesburgh Lecture. The lecture this year is by James McKenna PhD, a professor of anthropology at Notre Dame.  His topic is "Human Aggression: Is It Really in the Genes?" The lecture focuses on whether human aggression is part of our "Human Nature" or if our culture makes human conflict and war inevitable. Professor McKenna also looks at human aggression in relation to other animals and suggests that we are more peaceful and altruistic than we think.

The lecture is Sunday evening, November 11 at 7:00 pm in Marian Hall at Immaculate Conception Church on East North Broadway.  The lecture will last approximately one hour with light refreshments served after the lecture. View the attached flier for additional details.

SPIRITUAL REFLECTION

On certain occasions it is necessary to speak to people whom you heartily dislike. Then you must do so with greatest respect and esteem. This point is of such great importance for the perfection of our souls that I would willingly write these words with my blood. Should we not show our love for God? Jesus suffered so much for us amid repugnance and adversions! Should we not do the same in similar circumstances? It is necessary that the thorns of difficulties pierce our brain and the lance of contradictions pass through our hearts. We must also drink the gall and gulp down the vinegar, and chew upon absinth and the hemlock because He wants us to do so. (Letters 1294; O. XVII, p. 370)
