Greetings! ,

Matthew is looking forward to a unique event for both himself and the students of the Ellis Marsalis Center for Music in New Orleans. Matthew will share the stage with New Orleans bluesman Little Freddie King, as well as Musician Village residents Michael Harris on Bass and Tom Chute on drums. They will perform together, exposing the children to blues music, possibly for the first time for some of them. Parents, faculty, residence of the Musicians' Village, and invited guests will also attend.

The Ellis Marsalis Center for Music is a music education center / community center in the upper 9th Ward of New Orleans. This diverse Center provides an after -school/Saturday music education, vocal, dance and homework assistance program for children of the 9th Ward. The performance will be in their state-of-the-art Performance Hall that boasts near perfect acoustics.

About Matthew Davidson -

"Matthew's got "it". I'm sure he's going to make a lot of people happy with his fine music. He's already an accomplished and powerful performer and bandleader, and I've watched him tear up an audience many times."  ~Bob Margolin, legendary blues guitarist who played in Muddy Waters' band

"Fourteen year old rising child prodigy, Matthew Davidson, has been making major waves in the music world. Getting his first taste of guitar at the age of three, Matthew has been stunning the ears of multiple guitar enthusiasts and organizations across the country." ~William Clark, Guitar International, Jan. 2013

"Wonder kid Matthew Davidson may only be 14 but he definitely knows a little something about the blues. "Step Up" is only a taste of what is to come for Matthew. His mature funk'd out guitar skills are inevitably demonstrative of this kids natural talent and devotion to music. You'll never hear another 14-year-old hone that Louisiana Southern blues-funk rhythm the way that Davidson has. " ~Kimmie Tubre, Where Y'at Magazine, New Orleans, LA - December 2012

"The next generation of stars in Louisiana...Matthew Davidson...14 years old from Shreveport, Louisiana. He is going to be something special. He is right now and he's going to be in the future. You know, you look at Matthew and you think about Hunter Hayes, who Louisiana has watched grow up over the years...(3 Grammy nominations for him this year), so...the future of Louisiana music is in good hands." ~Louisiana Lt. Gov. Jay Dardenne, Louisiana Public Broadcasting - December 2012

(From staff reports The Meridian Star - Feb. 16, 2013)

This year's 59/Twenty Music Festival has been scheduled for Saturday, April 13. The lineup features four bands on one stage from 2-11 p.m., as well as local artists performing on a side stage. Tickets can be purchased online at www.ypmeridian.com.

Bands booked for this year's festival are:

    * The Kenny Wayne Shepherd Band: Kenny Wayne Shepherd, barely in his 30s, is a Louisiana-born axeman and songsmith who has been selling millions of albums, throwing singles into the Top 10, shining a light on the rich blues of the past and forging ahead with his own modern twist on a classic sound he has embodied since his teens. He met Stevie Ray Vaughan at age 7, and shared the stage with New Orleans legend Bryan Lee at 13. As an adult, he continues to create genre-defining blues-infused rock n' roll.

    * Rosco Bandana: Rosco Bandana is a Gulfport-based band whose act includes blues/Americana style music blended with modern folk and a hint of gypsy fanfare. The band formed recently and has been shaking up the local music scene with their energetic live performances.

    * The Matthew Davidson Band: Fourteen-year-old award-winning guitarist/vocalist Matthew Davidson from Shreveport, La., began performing professionally in 2010 and since then "has achieved an immense amount of recognition, support and admiration," according to International Musician magazine. With musical influences as diverse as The Beatles, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Maroon 5 and John Mayer, Davidson is a triple-threat: guitarist, vocalist and songwriter ... performing rock, blues and pop with equal command. Matthew released his debut EP "Step Up" in 2012, produced by legendary bassist Joe Osborn. "Matthew has been making some major waves in the music world, and stunning the ears of multiple guitar enthusiasts and organizations across the country," reports Guitar International. Matthew was the 2011 winner of the Robert Johnson Blues Foundation New Generation Award. "His style was advanced for his age," said Steven Johnson, Robert's grandson and vice president of the Robert Johnson Blues Foundation. "It was crisp; it was professional. His style with that electric guitar was amazing. I know Matthew will be a great ambassador for the Foundation".

    * HanaLena, formerly Nash Street, is led by the sister duo Hannah and Caroline Melby. Currently based in Nashville, Tenn., their roots reach all the way back to the state of Mississippi where they grew up playing old-time, folk and bluegrass music. In 1996, they formed the band as Nash Street, named after the street they grew up on in Starkville. Since then, Hannah and Caroline have been traveling across the country performing and developing their unique blend of bluegrass, country, pop-acoustic, and blues. The band was declared the "Best New Act in Country Music" at the 2008 Colgate Country Showdown in the Ryman Auditorium.

The 59/Twenty was started in 2011 by the Young Professionals of Meridian as a fundraiser to support the Care Lodge, a local domestic violence shelter serving a nine county area in East Mississippi.
