OSHA Final Rule on Improving
Tracking of Workplace Injuries and Illnesses

On May 11, 2016, OSHA released the final rule on Improving Tracking of Workplace Injuries and Illnesses. The final rule, FAQs and a fact sheet can now be found on OSHA's website on the top right hand side of the page.

This important rule, which takes effect Jan. 1, 2017, requires employers in certain high-risk industries such as construction to electronically submit injury and illness data that employers are already required to keep under existing OSHA regulations. This new transparency will assist OSHA and workers in identifying hazardous workplaces. Significantly, the new rule also includes important protections to make sure that workers can report injuries without fear of retaliation.
