Flame Resistant Work Clothing Saves Lives
Flame resistant refers to the ability of a material to self-extinguish upon the removal of an ignition source.
This is particularly important to people who work in potentially hazardous environments involving electric arc, flash fire and combustible dust, as well as any workers who come in contact with energized electrical equipment.
When workers are in a position to be exposed to electrical arcs, their first effort should be to eliminate the exposure through engineering design. If eliminating all arc-related exposures is not possible, the next step is attempting to limit the extent of such exposures through administrative controls such as work practices. For example, efforts should be made to reduce the available fault current and/or to use techniques that will put more distance between the worker and the point of the potential arc.
