Friday Night Tasting Lineup

2011 Amayna Sauvignon Blanc

Chile. Very light, lemony, juicy acid. Leyda Valley, mineral, tasty. Pretty ripe. More time on the lees makes it a bit warmer in the sunny 2012 vintage. A more full style. From a small sub-region of the San Antonio Valley just west of Santiago. Cooling effect from the Humboldt Current which flows up the west coast of Chile from the Antarctic. Cold soak, no malo, stainless. 500 case production.

Our Price: 23.57

2011 Amayna Pinot Noir

Chile. Aromatic. Ripe fruits on the palate. Nice small grain tannins, cherry, dust. 12 mo. oak. Dijon clones focusing on 115 & 777. 14 day cold soak, 12 months in new Taransaud Burgundy barrels. Ripe, with just right vanilla & spice from the oak. Young vines (8 years) at 600 feet. Only 500 cases produced. Coastal influence. Smooth wine, with a lengthy finish for the youthfulness, smoky earthiness evokes Burgundy, which everyone claims, but I think there is a bit of truth to that with this wine.

Our Price: 33.57

2012 Hermanos Malbec - Tannat

In the East End Wines Top 200 (#55).  From the Valle de Cafayate, in Salta, Argentina (High altitude - 6,900 ft! Produces less than 1% of the wine from Argentina). 70% Malbec, 30% Tannat. 17 year old vines, ripe red and dried fruit, great structure from the Tannat, and a little (3 months) time in oak. The sun and heat get the Tannat ripe, and the big temperature swings keep the acidity there (90° days, 50° nights).

Our Price: 14.57

2011 Bouchon Cabernet Sauvignon

Chile. 80% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Carmenere, 10% Merlot. Santa Rosa, Mingre (Maule Valley). Red currant, cassis, tobacco, dried herbs, oak (133 days total) (winery). We brought this in for the tasting sight unseen, as the other wines were so tasty, then did a tasting with it in May - it turned out to be our favorite of the Bouchon reds. 1000 case production.

Our Price: 18.97
