Friday Night Tasting Lineup

2011 Edi Simcic Rubicon Rebula

From Slovenia, just meters over the Italian border, Edi Simcic has been hailed by critics as the finest winemaker in Eastern Europe, and one of the very best in ALL of Europe. His wines, worth every penny, are never inexpensive-until now. In our opinion, no grape is more important, or more profound in this appellation, than Rebula. Bright, fresh and mineral-laden, it also has a delightful sweet cream essence to it, derived from local autochthonous yeasts that ferment 11 months in French oak. With terrific acidity, the wood is almost imperceptible, allowing the fruit to shine through. ½ bottle of wine per plant yield.

Our Price: 19.57

2009 Edi Simcic Rebula Riserva

Virtually unknown in the U.S., the Rebula varietal is one of the oldest grapes from the Goriska Brda area, and it represents 35% of all vineyards in the zone. Not known for its breath-taking aromatics when young, Rebula shows subtle white blossoms on the nose, but with bottle aging, becomes simply remarkable, presenting pleasing citrus and apple on the nose. In fact, it is one of the finest age worthy white wines we have ever come across, and will be even better in 10 years. In classic Simcic style, the wine is full of character for the terroir. ½ bottle of wine per plant yield.

Our Price: 29.57

2010 Macedon Pinot Noir

Exotic locale, yet textbook Pinot Noir...this shows gorgeous black cherry, pomegranate, and raspberry fruit.  Besides that lovely fresh fruit, we get classic savory forest floor/earthy and spice components to lend complexity and richness, quality Pinot Noir, rarely found at this price. More importantly for Pinot lovers, the Tikves region from where this hails shares the same latitude as Burgundy and the Russian River Valley. It's a special spot for vine-growing, at the confluence of two major weather fronts - from the Aral Mountains and the Aegean Sea - which yield a consistent drying wind and almost no rainfall.

Our Price: 15.57
