Friday Night Tasting Lineup

Martin Ulisse - Veleta Vigiriega 2011

90 % Vijiriega, 10% Chardonnay. Two weeks in new french oak barrels. Vijierga-similar to an un-oaked Chardonnay, this Vijierga, nicknamed Viji, is far more complex and is a great white alternative.  It is light-bodied with flavors of honey, pear, apple, white flowers and herbs creating a fresh, nutty palate with a smooth and slightly creamy finish. Very perfumed. White wild flowers, citrus blossoms, banana, green apple. Notes of cream and liquor. Palate - fresh with a gentle and wrapping smooth pass. Bitter citrus: grapefruit, cherimoya, passion fruit. Long, broad and persistent. Gentle elegant bitter finish. 2010 was $18.57.

Our Price: 13.57

David Mayfield - Marichal Unoaked Chardonnay 2012

They produce a Chardonnay that is completely unoaked and does not undergo a malolactic fermentation. The resulting wine is a pure, mineral driven expression of Chardonnay-something that simply must be tasted. "We express in this unoaked Chardonnay the potential of our land, obtaining a well balanced wine, which presents on the nose, an attractive fresh fruit character. On the palate it is delicate but full bodied and consistent. It has the perfect balance between fresh acidity and ripeness."

Our Price: 15.57

Martin Ulisse - Veleta Tempranillo 2007

90% Tempranillo, 5% Cabernet Sauvignon, 5% Merlot. Twelve months in American and French oak. A traditional Spanish red, similar to a Rioja, this medium-bodied Tempranillo is complex yet elegantly balanced.  Ripened red fruits, white plum, licorice and spice fill the palate.  12 months in French and American oak gives an extra depth of flavor and a long lingering finish to this beautifully made Tempranillo. Nose - leather and licorice, flower nuances of lavender, mountains herbs: thyme and rosemary. Palate - very elegant, complex, full of red fruits, balanced, with gentle tannins. Finish - fresh pass that brings again the initial aromas. The 2005 was $14.57.

Our Price: 12.57

David Mayfield - Bodega Pizzorno Don Prospero Tannat 2011

Tannat is to Uruguay as Malbec is to Argentina, or even Shiraz to Australia. It produces wines that are generally high in tannin and acidity. Uruguayan examples are usually softer, and this from Pizzorno is medium bodied, savory and ripe with forest fruits and plums. Serve with grilled lamb cutlets. This has been a hit at East End Wines since its debut. Ideally suited to the local terroir, Tannat creates wines of distinction with great body and tannic structure, and with intense color and aromatic finesse.
