2011 Racines de la Terre Sauvignon Blanc
Still juicy, getting more round. Expressive contract fruit from the Languedoc-Roussillon, ripe enough to have some tropical fruit and grapefruit character. 100% Sauvignon Blanc. Orange, with mineral hints. Rich citrus character on the palate and a lingering finish. Notes of white peach aromas. White fruit flavors as well. Estate grown near Carcassonne. Clay & limestone vineyard. 3 mo lees.

2009 Racines de la Terre Bordeaux
Cabernet Sauvignon & Merlot, all estate grown from Ch. Goudichaud in the Graves de Vayres in the Entre-Deux-Mers. Nose of blackberries & red fruit shadowed by a eucalyptus note & sweet tobacco. A great Bordeaux vintage, that comes across here with red plum, berry, vanilla, & cigar box. Long & smooth finish of dark & red fruits with soft black tea tannins, for a Bordeaux at such a crazy low price. Estate fruit from Château Goudichaud in Graves de Vayres, famous for its gravel soils that are perfectly suited for Merlot and Cabernet. Critics herald 2009 as a sensational vintage for Bordeaux. Soft moderate tannins, some black tea / tobacco / wood action.

2011 Ladron de Guevara Alavesa Rioja
Fruit forward attack, then picks up some drying tannins. Chocolate covered cherry filling. Crazy deal special for the tasting! Tempranillo, drinking young, with bright acid that balanced darker blue fruit that combines for a lengthy finish. Earth & nerve. Making wine for more than four centuries. Intense, honest nose of ripe wild berries with balsamic notes, against a subtle background of clean wood. Hefty, in the mouth, with clean aromas of smoky wood well integrated into ripe fruit. Velvety, perfectly balanced. Fresh, meaty and elegant finish.

2007 Petroni Estate Rosso di Sonoma
Mouth-filling & pretty weighty. Some heat on the nose, small grain but ample tannins. Brambly blackberry fruit, black cherry. Concentrated - Mayacamas. (5%) Cabernet Sauvignon & (75%) Syrah planted at elevations separated by 1200 ft... (20%) Sangiovese joins the fray. Juicy acid. Interesting. Rich fruit but still bright, from the very lush & ripe 2007 vintage. Earthy Syrah from 2000 ft., extended maceration, French Oak bringing baking spice, vanilla, caramel.
