Friday Night Tasting Lineup
Colterenzio Pfefferer 2011
Trentino-alto Adige - Sudtirol sub-region. 100% Moscato Giallo ("Golden Muscat"). One of the oldest grape families in the world. An especially interesting mutation of Muscat called the 'Pfefferer' grape ('Peppery'). Muscat is unique in that the grapey, spicy flavor found in the fresh fruit is also found in the finished wine. Aromatic & elegant, dry, youthful & zesty with grapey fruit & freshness. Drinks almost like a Sauvignon Blanc in terms of weight, very pretty, a favorite hand-sell in the shop for interesting, affordable Italian white wine that is versatile with food & refreshing in our weather.

Miglianico Montupoli Montepulciano d'Abruzzo 2010
The variety was named after the Tuscan parish of Montepulciano, but, confusingly, is not used in the famous wines produced there. Aromas of ripe cherry & crushed blackberry lead into flavors of vanilla & spice in this wonderful red. If you are tired of Merlots from CA, then try this. It has already gained quite a few steady fans, but we wanted to be sure to highlight how great this wine is at the price-point. Pretty profound stuff for under $15... Versatile stuff, with juicy acid to pair with food, but round enough to fly solo.

Barone Cornacchia Montepulciano d'Abruzzo 2011
Huge, fruity bouquet, black cherry & herb scented. Lush currant fruit with velvety soft tannins & perfect fruit acid balance. A wine of great harmony & intensity. The finish is long & spicy. This wine shows how serious Montepulciano d'Abruzzo can get for a few more dollars, & has been a sleeper - great to be able to lay hands on. Opens up nicely.

Guidobono Langhe Nebbiolo 2011
Characterized by dark red & black fruit notes, surprising density & weight for the price; this is a wonderful introduction to this alluring grape. Dreaming of one day being able to produce Barolo, the Faccenda family purchased this winery in 2003. The vineyards lie just outside of Monforte, with vines averaging 30 to 40 years in age. Guidobono's wines are textbook interpretations of the indigenous grapes of the Langhe. Tangy, grippy, classic.
