Friday Tasting Lineup

Greetings!

Tomorrow we will taste through five Lambruscos from Cleto Chiarli.  Lambrusco is the grape and the region, located in the culinary dreamscape of Emilia-Romagna, home to prosciutto di Parma, balsamic vinegar, and Parmigiano-Reggiano. Etruscans first cultivated Lambrusco vines as far back as 100 B.C.; Cleto Chiarli is the oldest producer, founded in 1860. If you are old enough to remember the old "Riunite on Ice" ads, you can now forget them.  Lambrusco can be dry as well as sweet.  Details below.  See you there!

Friday Night Tasting Lineup

Cleto Chiarli Lambrusco Enrico Cialdini Secco

Nose has light floral / spicy hints. A Lambrusco Grasparossa, with more concentrated cassis flavor, raspberry / blackberry / brambly note. Black cherry. Acidity is more juicy than tart, making the mousse come off as creamier. 80 cases came to the US. Plum and smoky mineral come through a bit on the medium length finish. Fruity but dry. Light tannins. A great pairing with lasagna. All of these wines will pair with pizza. We will be able to taste this wine with you today and sell it to you when it is back in the shop in a week or two.

Our Price: 13.97

Cleto Chiarli Lambrusco Brut Rose Spumante

85% Lambrusco Grasparossa di Castelvetro varietal thrives on sunny slopes. Fruity aromas, fresh dark fruit flavors, nice tannin structure. From a more full & powerful Lambrusco, with 15% Pinot Nero (Pinot Noir) blended in. Gentle press, low temperature Metodo Italiano (Charmat) process. Delicate. Aperitivo, fruit salads, ice cream. A favorite returns.

Our Price: 14.57

Cleto Chiarli Lambrusco di Sorbara Premium Vecchia Modena

Manual picking of the best grapes. Fresh ripe strawberry & raspberry nose, rhubarb, citrus zest. Dry, with the great blend of tangy acid and lightly bitter mineral. Citrus & herb palate - balanced & refreshing. Lighter in color. Enough acid to work as an aperitif with cheese & charcuterie, or pair with fatty white meats, or poached eggs. Lengthy & fine mousse. Sorbara is the lighter style of Lambrusco, Grasparossa in the heartier style. (60 sub-varietals).

Cleto Chiarli Lambrusco Pruno Nero

Soft pressing of the grapes followed by a long, cold maceration. Red, semi-sparkling, full-bodied, with a softer mousse. Fruity (fresh strawberries) & fresh but still coming through pretty dry & earthy (bitter mineral note) on the finish. Red fruit acidity (cranberries, raspberries, strawberries). Balanced and refreshing. Like all of the offerings from Cleto Chiarli, a great bargain for the level of quality on offer. Light tannins. Great with pastas, roasted meats, aged cheeses.

Our Price: 14.57

Cleto Chiarli Lambrusco GdC Centenario "Amabile"

"Slightly sweet" with deep ruby color, pink bubbles. Ripe black cherry, sweet flavors of red raspberries & wild strawberries also. Soft & delicate. Grasparossa acidity allows it to carry a more typical Lambrusco level of sweetness without seeming cloying. (30g / L?). Frizzante level of mousse, but lively. Strawberry, floral. Juicy, light tannins, good concentration. Only 8% alcohol. Charming.
