Tasting Lineup

Greetings!

This Friday's tasting will feature wines from Anglim, a small, family-owned winery located in Paso Robles, California.  They focus on Rhone varietals from France such as Viognier and Syrah.  Tomorrow we will feature a Rhone-style red and white blend as well as a Syrah.  Notes below.  See you there!

Oak, nice acid, works well as an oakier Chardonnay replacement. A crazy deal. 2009 Anglim Central Coast Cerise

Rhone blend with Roussanne + Petit Sirah. Ripe & big, a crowd pleaser. This was a good deal when it was $15 wholesale. Scrubby. This blend shows earthy, spice box aromas with flavors of cherry, blueberry, and tea. From Wine Garage: "The nose reminds me of currant jam, black pepper, raspberry, & cocoa. The flavors pop out with more red & black fruits like strawberry, raspberry, cherry, peppercorn, slate, cigar box, & a hint of earth on the finish. Very bright & balanced wine. Have with Moroccan Lamb Tangine." roasted duck, goat gouda.

2009 Anglim Central Coast Syrah

Good stuff - Rich, tasty - Used to be Paso Robles on the label (2008), now calling it Central Coast (for 2009) - Ripe blackberry & blueberry fruit is framed by tobacco & spice, with firm tannin & earthiness on the lingering finish. Wine Garage: "The nose reveals lavender, mineral, roasted meat, & blueberry. Dark in the glass, the palate gives off intense dark fruits such as blackberry, currant, & black cherry. Roasted herbs, pencil lead, pipe tobacco, & black pepper round out the flavors before the long finish takes over. steaks, chili, eggplant dishes, dry jack cheese
