Friday Night Tasting Lineup

2010 Tenuta Sant' Antonio Scaia Rossa Corvina

Veneto, Italy. Back in the stack, a favorite - cool to see Corvina by itself, inexpensively, as opposed to part of a blend. Floral, with lots of red & black cherry fruit, black plum, brambly fruit, currant. Nice juicy acid, and a very clean finish. Temperature controlled stainless steel vats, indigenous yeast. Low tannins, and the reds go through Malolactic before alcoholic fermentation, so there is a nice soft & round character for what is a pretty medium-bodied wine.

Our Price: 10.97

2009 La Bella Vita Frappato

From Marsala West Sicilia IGT - light to medium bodied, with a grapey & candied red fruit aroma, wild strawberries, earth & spice (nutmeg, cinnamon?). Frappato is probably a cross of Sangiovese and another unidentified grape. Dry on the mid-palate, with nice concentration, blueberry & red fruits, pretty bright acidity. Firm but supple tannins, giving a pretty nice length & focus for such an inexpensive & fresh, friendly wine. Serve it with mild red sauced linguine, red meats, especially game, cheeses, even chocolate. You can serve it with a light chill, as well.

Our Price: 10.97

2008 Torre di Luna Cabernet Sauvignon

Toast - Wines by Taste - "Intense ruby red color. On the nose it presents clean and intense aromas of fresh, ripe fruit, red berries and hints of spice. In the mouth there is a good correspondence to the nose, with a good structure and nice tanginess. Tannins are smooth and sweet with a nice long finish. It pairs very well with all red meat dishes, game and mature cheeses."

Our Price: 12.97

2007 Vigne & Vini Schiachianoci Negroamaro

IGT from Salento, in Puglia, Italy - Ten % Malvasia Nera. Interesting taste profile - nose of earthy/smoky notes, blueberry, pepper - palate is light bodied & has decent acid & very subtle tannins. Well-balanced. There is a nice note of smoke & this carries through to the finish which becomes meaty/sausage like. Cocoa powder is delicate on the end. Nice for the price - refreshing interest. A medium-bodied, rustic red, offering dried cherry & wild berry notes that linger, with hints of grilled herb & licorice. Drinking now. Previously 15.97.
