Happy Holidays!

We are really excited about this one!  Before beginning your holiday festivities, you need to check out these killer wines from Germany.  East End Wines and Wine Frog will present a dry Riesling, a Kabinett from the renowned J.J. Prum, a $15 Spatlese, and an inexpensive German Pinot Noir!  Perfect with traditional and many not-so-traditional Christmas meals.  Don't miss it!

Friday Night Tasting Lineup

2010 P.J. Valckenberg "Undone" Dry Riesling

Oldest family owned wine merchant in Germany. Rheinhessen. Fresh and grassy, gooseberry / floral (jasmine / honeysuckle) nose with some stone fruit. Focused with crisp acid, lime / grapefruit. Very little futzing about with this vibrant wine. Very, very versatile for food pairing, loving seafood (including sushi, shellfish, bivalves), salads, white meats. While the hills are a bit more rolling, and the soil a little more nourishing than pure slate, these guys still put out a zippy, pleasing, dry Riesling for very little money.

Our Price: 12.57

2008 Joh. Jos. Prüm Graacher Himmelreich Riesling Kabinett

Starting to get increasingly pretty after a bit of a wound-up debut. Spectacular site, a favorite producer. Expressive & aromatic, with white floral & lemon-lime notes, white peach, mineral in spades, starting towards the classic Mosel petrol hint, nut = almond. Soils a little less harsh, acid is juicy, not screechy. Elegant. Selling elsewhere for $30. If you can wait until 2035, it will be great then, too. Refreshing & fruity at the moment. Another solid outing.

Our Price: 23.97

2006 Carl Graff Riesling Urziger Wurzgarten Spatlese

Founded 1860, purchased by P.J. Valckenberg in 1969. Middle Mosel, Saar & Ruwer valleys, from South facing red volcanic & slate slopes. Delicate spice & peach blossom. Juicy apple acids. Cold then hot then wet vintage meant a lot of concern about botrytis - For Graff, a small but high quality vintage. Beautiful by itself, rich enough to serve alongside desserts, or even a blue cheese. Spatlese communicating more ripeness & quality in this instance, as opposed to a straight sweetness level.

Our Price: 14.97

2008 Valckenberg "Undone" Pinot Noir

Rheinhessen. By Worms on the Rhein, 100% Pinot Noir fermented in stainless steel tanks, sees no oak, smooth, with blackberry, raspberry, tart cherry, and plum notes framed by herb. Pretty deep for German Pinot Noir at this price. Will work well with medium fat fish like salmon, lighter red meats, pasta. Dry, with juicy acidity, low, low tannins, and some length on the finish. A touch of spice. Easy going wine. More Pinot Noir is being planted in Germany as the globe heats up. Yes, the globe is heating up. Enjoy these low alcohol, high acidity wines that go great with food while they are still like this!

Our Price: 12.57
