Thanks to Allied Arts, The Sooner Theatre has a new way to let you know about projects for which we need funding! power2give.org just launched last week, and we are excited to tell you about our first project, which will provide costumes and specialty props for our Young Producer's production of Shrek The Musical this summer.

We hope you'll take a moment and check out our project,  Winning By A Nose! If you choose to donate to the project, Allied Arts has secured a donor, Continental Resources, who will match your donation, dollar-for-dollar!

What is power2give?
power2give is a national online cultural marketplace designed to connect donors with specific arts projects. The site allows cultural organizations to post and promote projects in need of funding and invites donors to contribute directly to the projects that move them.

With tools and resources for both donors and cultural organizations, www.power2give.org makes posting, donating, and promoting projects convenient and engaging. Unlike other crowd funding platforms, any money raised for a project is directed to the posting agency, regardless of the goal amount.

Who is behind power2give in central Oklahoma?
As the state's only united arts fund, Allied Arts is bringing power2give to central Oklahoma. This crowd-sourced funding opportunity launched on February 23, 2014.

 Shawn Mullins
Featuring
North Meets South
April 11, 8 PM

Since listeners last heard from Shawn Mullins on 2008's honeydew, the Atlanta-based singer/ songwriter and bandleader has undergone a series of transformative experiences, leading to a second coming for the veteran artist. Evidence of Mullins' newfound level of musical and lyrical ambition courses comes through with Light You Up (Vanguard Records, Oct. 12). This captivating new song cycle will likely be viewed as a flat-out revelation even by Mullins' most fervent fans.

His experiences included an indoctrination into the collaborative creative process by numerous bouts of intensive co-writing, in one instance putting him atop of the country charts via a key contribution to the Zac Brown Band's "Toes," marking his third #1 single, following 1999's "Lullaby" and the 2006 Triple A/Americana chart-topper "Beautiful Wreck." Further co- writing yielded nine of the 11 songs on the new album, which Mullins believes represents the strongest, most expressive writing of his distinguished career.
Local favorites North Meets South will open for Mullins.

 Jimmy Webb
May 9, 8 PM
A true living legend of songwriting, Jimmy Webb's been crafting amazing songs, many of which have become cherished standards, for some forty years. And he's still doing it. A brand new Webb album, Just Across The River, featuring duets with many luminaries (including Jackson Browne, Michael McDonald, Glen Campbell, Vince Gill, Billy Joel, Linda Ronstadt and more) has just been released, and it might serve as the bridge that connects this songwriter with his famous songs in the public mind. Though some might still not know his name, they know the songs: "Wichita Lineman," "By The Time I Get To Phoenix," "Galveston," "The Moon's A Harsh Mistress," "All I Know," "The Highwayman," "Up, Up and Away," "MacArthur Park," and many more. And those are just the famous ones. Webb is one of those rare songwriters who manages to bring a genuine measure of magic to everything he touches.
