Irving Rec. Center After School

Did you know Lincoln Parks and Recreation has been serving Irving families after school since 1977?  Much has changed in the past 36 years, and we believe supervised, safe, fun, and meaningful after school activities are as important as ever for middle school students.

For some students, Irving Recreation Center is simply a place to go after school; however, we are intentional about making the rec. center "more than just a place to go."  Our staff does this by focusing on a positive environment, supportive relationships, and constructive programs.

Families of after school members, teachers, and other friends of Irving Rec. Center will receive our email newsletter throughout the school year.  Newsletters will include a link to a current calendar, a few program highlights, and other important information.

Special Program for Irving Girls

Finding Your Voice: The Power of MediaIrving Recreation Center is teaming up with our longtime friends at Girl Scouts Spirit of Nebraska Council this year to offer a special program for Irving girls. All girls are invited to attend--Girl Scout or not.

This year, Girl Scouts Spirit of Nebraska Council wants girls to find their voice by using the power of media for positive change. Media is the most persuasive and pervasive force of communication in our culture. Girls between 8-18 years old spend more than 10 hours a day in media related activities. Images they see of girls and women affect their confidence, body image, relationships, and leadership aspirations. This year, we hope girls will examine their beliefs and gain clarity on what's truly important to them.

Let's make 2013-2014 an empowering year for Irving girls! Please encourage the Irving girl(s) in your life to consider attending on Friday, September 20 from 3:15-5:00 p.m. to learn more.

6th Grade Sports Camps

Sixth graders who attend Irving Middle School have a unique opportunity to participate in after school sports programs at Irving Rec. Center.  Throughout the school year, we host several skills-based sports camps for 6th graders.  These programs are intended to promote constructive use of time after school, support P.E. curriculum and healthy lifestyles, and help participants feel confident and prepared for school intramural sports in 7th and 8th grades.

Students who are interested in after school soccer and volleyball camps should attend a brief information meeting at Irving Rec. Center on Thursday, Sept. 26 at 3:15 p.m.
We work hard to make sure your family has the best possible experience after school.  If you ever have questions, comments, or suggestions, please let us know!

Take care,
