Please accept our offer at the bottom of this letter as our way of saying thank you for all you have done to help Good Sound Studio succeed. We couldn't do it without you!

And remember:

Band! ATTEN............HUT!

This summer Good Sound Studio embarked on an exciting new project when Bob Read, director of bands at Gateway High School, contacted me to design a new sound system for his marching band. This was uncharted territory for me but I was excited to take on the challenge. The result was a completely customized system that met their needs within their budget and could remain completely contained without exposure to the weather or the need to access any of the equipment. It proved to be an integral part of the success they experienced this competition year.

The system consisted of the following equipment:
  • Behringer X2442USB Mixing Board
  • 3 Behringer B212XL 800W Speakers
  • Behringer iNUKE series power amp
  • Behringer B1800XPRO 1800W Subwoofer
  • On-Stage C CLamp Mounts
  • On-Stage Goosenecks
  • HOSA 8 Channel Drop Snake
  • 24 Space Rack/Casters
  • Furman Power Conditioner
  • Custom Length Cables

As I began racking the equipment I felt it would be a good idea if the system could be managed without ever having to open the rack. I know the time restraints that bands face in setting up for a performance and cutting down the time needed to prepare the pit ensemble would be a great benefit. This is in addition to the fact that the less people you have touching equipment and making undesirable changes, the better off you are; not to the mention the wear and tear that you prevent on the equipment by not having to constantly plug and unplug connections.

The rack was fastened with all the attachments necessary to operate the system including a switch connected to the power conditioner that allows the entire system to be powered on and off. The plug from the conditioner was directed through the bottom of the rack in order to provide easy access to plug in an extension cord. I also attached a power strip for the keyboards as well as 1/4" connector plates on each side of the rack for connecting the keyboards to the mixer. I included wall plates on both sides with locking speakon connectors that would allow for quick connections to the main speakers, keyboard monitor and subwoofer. The speaker carts were also fashioned with the same wall plates and hard-wired to the speakers.

The C Clamps and goosenecks were used to mount the Audix microphones to the mallet percussion frames in order to amplify them. The HOSA drop snake was installed into the rack and connected to mixer and provided a quick and easy way to connect the custom length mic cables to the system. Over the course of several rehearsals, the system was tweaked in order to achieve the best mix possible. Finally the rack could be closed and no additional access would be needed. Everything could then be managed from the outside.

Here is what Mr. Read had to say:

The sound equipment and the mixing cart that you customized for us was
fantastic! It was convenient, easy to explain to new parent workers, and always "up and working". It was also great to know that the components within the mixing rack were safe from the weather conditions that can sometimes occur during a marching band contest. The microphone hook-ups on the mallet instruments were exactly what we had wanted and worked out great throughout the season. Thanks for all of your time and, most of all, your experience. It was good to know that you were no further away than a phone call. And you were always quick to answer questions and resolve situations. Greatly appreciated!! Glad to have you on our team!

By the way, congratulations to Mr. Read and the entire Gateway High School Marching Band on their recent 2012 PIMBA Class AAAA Championship. Way to go!
