Landmark Studio for the Arts

The Landmark Studio for the Arts will host History Alive: Minnie Pearl on Saturday, October 24th at 7:30 p.m. Minnie Pearl was an American country comedian who became famous on the Grand Ole Opry starting in 1940. Appearing in a styleless down home dress, a hat with the price tag dangling in front and a loud "How Dee I am just so proud to be here." Pearl became a legend entertaining audiences on the Grand Ole Opry and Hee Haw.

Minnie Pearl is portrayed by author Denise Giardina. Giardina has researched the speeches and biographies of the character and brings her to life on the Landmark Studio stage.

History Alive is a series offered by the WV Humanities Council which explores history through various noteworthy historical figures. The WV Humanities Council is a private, non-profit organization dedicated to providing West Virginia themed educational programing.

All are welcome to this FREE Humanities event.

Donations are welcome and refreshments will be sold.

Book Signing at Book Warehouse

P. Mark Debryan will be signing copies of his new book Family Reunion at Book Warehouse located at the Flatwoods Factory Outlet Stores on October 31st from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Copies of the book will be $20.

A trip to the Pacific Northwest is interrupted by a deadly virus. Fighting to survive, fighting to reunite. The Brant family is spread out across the country and all are headed to the reunion; some travel by car, some by air, and one in a high end luxury motor coach. The South African Flu has brought the world to its knees and the vaccine the CDC created has just made the situation worse, much worse. Join them as they try to find each other in a world that has collapsed around them and millions die of the flu, or wish they had.

Braxton County Monster Chairs

The story of the Braxton County Monster made headlines and shocked the nation in 1952. The mysterious being that some say visited the little town of Flatwoods left a big impression and raised many unanswered questions.

To celebrate the history of the Braxton County Monster the Braxton County CVB is building and placing 10 feet tall chairs around Braxton County to give monster and history enthusiasts a place to gather. Each chair receives a unique paint job to give each its own personality. Be sure to visit them all!
