That Dam Race 5K

July, 25th at 8 a.m.
July 25th marks the date for the seventh annual That Dam Race 5k. This race and it's unique and challenging terrain has attracted many runners and walkers to the Sutton Dam for six straight years. This 5k offers diverse terrain including, blacktop road, steep hills, wooded trail, historic cobblestone, and the most unique terrain being the Sutton Dam itself. The US Army Corp of Engineers opens up the top of the dam once a year for this event which is out of the ordinary for most dams. All proceeds from this year's event will go the Braxton County High School track program. Registration is $25.
The race will begin at 8 a.m. with registration starting at 7 a.m. Race shirts will be included with the price of registration while sizes and supplies last. A few new features are being added to the awards this year as well. The race medals are custom made out of ceramic and will feature a photo of the beautiful Sutton Dam. The top-overall men and top-overall women runners will also receive a box full of running goodies provided by RunnerBox.
As in previous years, the 5K crew will be conducting a children's dash race, aka "That Darn Race", after the 5k at around 10 a.m. Registration for That Darn Race will take place just before the dash. Participation in That Darn Race is free.

Directions
From I-79, take Exit 62 Sutton/Gassaway. Turn left on route 4, approximately 2 miles into Sutton. Turn right at the stop sign onto 2nd Street, cross the Elk River and turn left toward the Dam on Stonewall Rd. Keep left until you find yourself at the Sutton Dam.
Be sure to carb-up the night before the race at the 7th Annual

Sutton Dam Tours

Sutton Dam has been busy in recent months, holding back rainfall to reduce flooding along the Elk River.
Now the public can get a closer look at the dam operated by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in Sutton, W.Va. Tours of the dam will be offered to the public on Sunday, July 26, 2015,
11 a.m. to 3 p.m. FREE of charge!
All are invited to learn more about the role of Sutton Dam in their community as well as the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers management and maintenance of the Dam. Tours will begin at the top of the dam.
The tours involve some walking and stairs, and will last approximately 30 minutes. Adults must provide a government-issued photo ID, and children must be accompanied by an adult. Cameras, purses, or other bags are not permitted in Sutton Dam.
