Elk River Canoe and Kayak Float

Sutton Dam

Sutton, WV

June 27th

Float starts at 11 a.m.

Come out and enjoy the calm waters of the 3rd annual Elk River Canoe and Kayak Float on June 27th at the Sutton Dam. The first 150 pre registered participants will receive a free event t-shirt! Registration is free, before the day of the float or the day of, but registering early will secure your free t-shirt. The float starts at 11 a.m. but come early to register/sign-in, drop your gear, then drive to the end of the float to park and board the free shuttle back to the Sutton Dam to begin the float. Registration/sign-in and gear drops will start at 9 a.m. at the Sutton Dam. To pre register online CLICK HERE.

This year we are doing something special. We are providing shuttle services for two different ending points, which means participants in the float now have the option to take a 6.5 mile float OR a 10 mile float. The first ending point is at the Gassaway Dairy Queen, which has been the ending point the two previous years. The second ending point, located a few miles down river, just outside Gassaway on Route 4, will be at Sugar Creek Church. When registering please specify which ending point you intend to use.

Parking for the Dairy Queen ending point is provided at the Church of Christ in Gassaway, just across the bridge from the Dairy Queen. Please do not park in Dairy Queen's parking spaces as their parking is limited and will be needed for their regular customers throughout the day. Parking for the Sugar Creek Church will be available at Sugar Creek Church as well as along the road near the church.

The shuttle bringing float participants back to the Sutton Dam will leave Sugar Creek Church at 10:00 a.m. The shuttle will stop at the Gassaway Church of Christ, to pick up participants using the Dairy Queen ending point. The Shuttle will depart from the Church of Christ at 10:15 a.m. and arrive at the Sutton Dam around 10:40 a.m.

Free events like this would not be possible without the support from generous sponsors. The Elk River Canoe and Kayak Float is no different. We would like to thank our sponsors: West Virginia American Water, MonPower, Braxton County CVB, and Go Mart. For more information email [email protected], or call 304-765-6533.
