We join you in remembering those whose lives were taken.
As we take time to reflect on the 12th Anniversary of a day none of us will ever forget, let us come together to grieve, to remember, to express our gratitude to those who demonstrated what it is to be a hero, and to pledge ourselves to live in honor of their bravery.

We are marking this day with a special donation to the Dennis Taormina, Jr. Scholarship Fund. Dennis was a local volunteer fire fighter who lost his life on September 11, 2001. We have listed the information below for your consideration.

Dennis Taormina Annual Beef Steak Event

  dennis taormina jr.

The events of September 11, 2001 changed the United States of America forever.  The East Rutherford Fire Department was no exception.  On that morning, our Department suffered a great loss as our Brother firefighter, Dennis Taormina, Jr. was taken from us in the attacks on the World Trade Center.

Dennis was an 18-year veteran of the East Rutherford Fire Department and his spirited volunteerism was the definition of dedication.  Dennis served the Department proudly in a number of ways.  He demonstrated himself as a leader serving as Lieutenant and Captain of Truck Company 1.  His commitment and enthusiasm shined brightly as he served on Department committees and as Treasurer of Truck Co. 1.  Although Dennis was dedicated to his brothers and sisters in the Fire Department, he was even more dedicated to his family.  Dennis was a devoted family man, a loving husband to his wife Diane, caring father to his daughters Meghan and Jenna, devoted son to his parents Dennis and Linda, and supportive brother to his brothers Phil, Jeff, and James.  Dennis worked hard to support his family and was employed at the World Trade Center as a Vice-President at Marsh & McLennan.

As a tribute to our Brother Dennis, the members of Truck Company 1 have created a memorial scholarship fund that supports his daughters Meghan and Jenna, and also benefits two local high school students each year.  Today, we are writing you to ask for your support of the Annual Dennis Taormina, Jr. Memorial Scholarship Beefsteak to be held on Saturday, September 21, 2013 at 7:00pm at the East Rutherford Civic Center on Vreeland Avenue.  The beefsteak is always well attended and includes entertainment, but more so is a time for friends and family to gather to honor Dennis's memory and support a great cause.  We look forward to any contribution you can make to support this event.
