Happy Labor Day from Nicks Towing Service, Inc.! |
|
Greetings!
Labor Day has come to be celebrated by most Americans as the symbolic end of the summer. The kids are headed back to school and the days are beginning to get shorter. Hopefully you had a chance to enjoy a few days of sand in your toes. Now it's back to the daily grind. As you're preparing for all those Fall projects on your 'to do' list keep us in mind. We have trucks and manpower ready and waiting to help in whatever capacity we can. Enjoy the long weekend and stay safe out there.
God bless,
Nick Testa

The History of Labor Day
In 1882 the holiday was first proposed. Oregon was the first state to make it a holiday on February 21, 1887. By the time it became a federal holiday in 1894, thirty states officially celebrated Labor Day. It is always celebrated on the first Monday in September and is dedicated to the social and economic achievements of American workers. It constitutes a yearly national tribute to the contributions workers have made to the strength, prosperity, and well-being of our country. The form for the celebration of Labor Day was outlined in the first proposal of the holiday: A street parade to exhibit to the public "the strength and spirit de corps of the trade and labor organizations", followed by a festival for the workers and their families. This became the pattern for Labor Day celebrations. Speeches by prominent men and women were introduced later, as more emphasis was placed upon the civil significance of the holiday. Labor Day has become an important sale weekend for many retailers in the United States. Some retailers claim it is one of the largest sale dates of the year, second only to the Christmas season's Black Friday. In U.S. sports, Labor Day marks the beginning of the NFL and college football seasons.
