Designated by President Kennedy in the early 1960s, this week honors fallen police officers. Members of law enforcement and citizens from across the country descend onto Washington, DC to pay tribute to officers who have lost their lives. A special candle light vigil was held at the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial. The names of more than 19,000 officers who have been killed in the line of duty are etched into those walls. This year, 321 names were added.
