New Medical Card Regulations for
CDL Drivers |
In the past, a CDL driver was required to maintain an up to date medical card and the company he/she works for was legally responsible for tracking this. New regulations from the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration requires that states become compliant in tracking this information no later than January 30, 2014. Most states have already begun this process. The rules for the requirement of a medical card remain the same. What changes is the DOT medical card must be presented to the state AND CDL drivers must self-certify their classification in which they operate to become "certified" by the state issuing their driver's license. There are four options to choose from when the driver is determining his/her classification and they are outlined in the link below. In most states, failure to comply with the new law will restrict the CDL driver to intrastate only travel or they may lose their CDL status.
The Commercial Driver's License Information System (CDLIS) is a nationwide computer system that enables state driver licensing agencies (SDLAs) to ensure that each commercial driver has only one driver's license and one complete driver record. State Motor Vehicle Agencies participate to create a complete database of all CDL records.

Greetings!
It's hard to believe January has come and gone so quickly. If you're like me you are still trying to keep your New Year's resolution. Mine for 2013 is to put into place systems that help stop the fire fighting that happens daily. No doubt it takes time to evaluate something and organize but in the end the results are usually worth the effort in time and money saved. To that end I urge you to reach out to us to discuss your towing needs. We want to be your one stop provider for all of your towing, transportation and road service needs. I always say "If you are using another towing service we are both losing money". Give us a ring and we can set into place a system that takes the guess work of "who to call" whenever there is a breakdown or move. We look forward to hearing from you.
Best regards,
Nick Testa
