Greetings!
A chill is in the air and Fall is here. As Halloween approaches don't get "tricked" into using an inferior towing service. You want the company with the insurance, expertise, and 40 years of well earned 'know how' to have your back when the goblins and ghouls get to work messing up your day. Enjoy the "treat" of knowing Nick's is there to be your ghost buster when you need us. Happy Halloween.

Recovery Highlight of the Month
October 2012
This driver had just hooked up to his trailer and gone a few blocks when disaster struck. As he turned a corner, the trailer came off the tractor and slid to the ground resting against an electrical box on the sidewalk and some telephone wires. We were dispatched immediately to the scene. It was determined the fifth wheel on the tractor was not locking correctly on the trailer pin. The company sent a replacement tractor and, after it was determined it was safe to work, we began rigging the trailer. The rotator was able to work from the side of the trailer to lift the trailer and straighten it so the good tractor could back under it and hook up. Great job Tom!

UD Discontinues Cabover Truck Sales In The USA
UD Trucks North America is ending production of its line of cab-over-engine trucks for the United States at the end of this year.
Dealers will continue to take orders for trucks through the middle of October, John Mies, vice president of communications for Volvo Trucks North America, told Light & Medium Truck. UD is part of the Volvo Truck Group, which also includes Mack Trucks and Renault Trucks, among other brands.
UD began notifying dealers last week, a source said.
Mies cited a shrinking COE segment and the cost of regulatory compliance as reasons for the decision.
The company will continue to support existing customers with parts and service as long as necessary, Mies said.
While UD Trucks is one of the largest truck makers in Japan and some Southeast Asia markets, it has struggled to gain traction in the United States and has less than 1% of the U.S. market. The company reported selling 389 trucks through the first eight months of this year, according to WardsAuto.com. That compares with 8,425 for Isuzu Commercial Trucks of America and 1,895 for Mitsubishi Fuso Truck of America in that same period.

Fall Safety Tips for Fido!
Sadly, Summer is coming to an end, and it's time to make sure you and your pup are ready for Fall. While we all enjoy the falling leaves and cooler temperatures, there are important items to consider when it comes to your pet. Here are a few tips to keep top of mind during the fall months:
- Many dogs have not been as active outdoors because of hot summer days, so make sure you and your four-legged friend practice some basic training. It is essential to give them a refresher on the very important "come" command, especially if you will be spending more time outside.
- On sunny days it is still necessary to mind your dog and be sure he/she is not left alone in a car for extended amounts of time. Heat can still build up with the windows closed.
- If you and your pup have not been on long walks in a while and you are going to enjoy long walks in the cooler weather, make sure to build up their stamina a little bit first. Start with shorter walks and build your way up. This will make it an easier adjustment for your dog's body.
- Watch out for toxic chemicals, such as fertilizers and rodent killers. These are frequently used in the fall and can be deadly to your pet.
- In preparation for winter, many people change or refresh the coolant in their car. Antifreeze has a sweet taste that dogs love but is extremely toxic.
- Make sure to have the poison control number readily available in case your pet does get into something toxic. The ASPCA has a 24-hour animal poison control hotline and can be reached at 888-426-4435.

Words of
Wisdom from
"The Great Communicator"
|
In this crazy political climate we felt the need to reach back to the archives to get some words of wisdom from arguably one of the greatest Presidents, Ronald Reagan.
"It has been said that politics is the second oldest profession. I have learned that it bears a striking resemblance to the first."
"I have wondered what the 10 Commandments would have looked like if Moses had run them through the US Congress."
"Recession is when a neighbor loses his job. Depression is when you lose yours."
"Government's view of the economy could be summed up in a few short phrases: If it moves, tax it. If it keeps moving, regulate it. And if it stops moving, subsidize it. "
"Government exists to protect us from each other. Where government has gone beyond its limits is in deciding to protect us from ourselves." |

Health Tip:
Don't Dehydrate |
When you lose more water than you take in it is called dehydration. We lose water through breathing, sweating and urination.
Staying properly hydrated is extremely important for a number of reasons. Headache, fatigue, dry mouth, dizziness, thirst and hunger are all side effects of dehydration. Usually if you are thirsty you are already beginning mild dehydration. To counter this be sure to take care and drink fluids throughout the day. This does not need to be water exclusively. recent studies have shown that coffee, tea, milk, and other fluids can all be used to remain hydrated. Be sure to avoid sugary drinks that are high in calories. Staying well hydrated may also have the added benefit of keeping your weight from keeping up (when drinking non caloric fluids). The next time you are hungry try having a glass of water. It could be your body telling you it is actually in need of fluids, not food. If you are feeling drowsy try a glass of water as well. Again, fatigue is another way your body is telling you it needs more fluids. Try to take in 8, eight ounce glasses of water a day. Try adding sugar free flavorings such as Crystal Light to change things up if ou are not fond of the taste of water. Give it a try and see if you don't feel more energetic and less hungry! |
