World Meningitis Day: April 23

Every year more than 1.2M people suffer from meningitis.

On Thursday, the Confederation of Meningitis Organisations (CoMO) united with 43 member organisations in 28 countries worldwide to celebrate the sixth World Meningitis Day (WMD).

Meningitis is a disease that can affect anyone, anywhere and at any time. This year, together with their members, CoMO shared information about meningitis and promoted the important role of vaccinations in preventing the most deadly and most devastating forms of the disease.

Health Policy Matters
Reuters.  In an effort to help families afford expensive treatment, California has passed rules to make it harder for insurance agencies to delay treatment for children with autism.  More specifically, the rules "make it clear that insurers must cover behavioral interventions for children with autism at the same level that they cover visits to a medical doctor."  (Bernstein, 4/16)    Full Story

Kaiser Health News.  The University of Utah Health Care now allows patients to rate their doctors on the hospital's official web page.  While all doctors currently have a 4 or 5 out of 5 rating, not all of the comments are positive.  (Galewitz, 4/17)   Full Story
