Health Policy Matters
Bloomberg.  More than 6 states are now taking advantage of Obamacare as they help inmates to enroll in the health insurance exchange.  The move helps jails reduce their costs, and will likely help the inmates as well.  "Proponents say it also will make recidivism rarer, because inmates released with coverage are more likely to get treatment for mental illness, substance abuse and other conditions that can lead them to crime."  7M U.S. citizens were on parole, probation, in prison or jail in 2012.  (Niquette, 2/6)    Full Story

Kaiser Health News.  Humana has announced that 35% of people who have enrolled via the Affordable Care Act are between the ages of 21 and 40.  This is good news, since many people have been worried that not enough young, healthy individuals would sign up to offset the cost of the older population.  (Hancock, 2/5)  Full Story
